Pinos/Lagos

Reviewing Los Pinos/Los Lagos.
Me and my friends vacationing in Spain. Second day of the trip we play course Almenara. Small disappointment for me was that they did not have logo ball from collection, not sure why. We did not have much time before game because we were first flight from our group, so we jump right into it. It was lucky day for me, my 1st eagle on 1st hole. I liked the design of the course and pine trees on front nine, surrounding the fairways. Fairways once again were a bit worn out and dry, there are no roughs and deep roughs you are either on fairways, in the trees or OB. Greens are a bit slower than on San Roque, but still very playable and no doubt in better shape than on previous course, therefore my higher valuation. Back nine has more lakes and water hazards, however I liked front nine. We valued the complimentary water in the buggy, would also appreciate shot saver or GPS in the buggy. What is the worst part here is the poor course orientation when changing from Pines to Lagos, you need to ride on sidewalk and its not very well marked and convenient for the first time visitors.
I will not evaluate driving since we did not have time to go there, or to other practice facilities. Resort itself look very nice, but after game refreshment was not so good. Big restaurants closed, opened only small bar with 2 waitresses who were not able to handle our orders well. Price/performance ratio at the moment is just average for the priced charged.

Average!

We played the “Lagos” and “Alcornoques” courses at the end of November 2023, although you have to express your wishes to the Caddymaster. The tracks are designed to be quite interesting and challenging; The condition of the condition obviously has room for improvement - especially the fairways and the zones around the green. You won't find any descriptions or directions here - unfortunately! An extra journey for this place is not worth it!

Very good condition

We played Almenara again and were able to swap pinos for logos with the Caddymaster without any problems. The course is in good condition. Tees and fairways are good and the greens are absolutely top. We played Golfamore for two for 95 euros, and on the round from the Caddymaster we got bananas, apples and water in the secretariat and clubhouse, everyone was very friendly, we would be happy to come back.

More shine than reality

Played at the end of March 2023 on the 9-hole loops "Pinos" and "Alcornoques", HCP 14.

The landscape of the facility is quite nice - the tracks meander through wooded area, from the edge greet some nice villas. Unfortunately (as is often the case with the Spanish pitches in this region) there is also frequent and violent work on these - constant construction noise accompanied us on "Pinos", there were also some ugly construction cranes to "admire".

It was much quieter on "Alcornoques" and the layout of these nine is also much better. "Pinos" is OK, but without any highlights worth mentioning - hardly any tracks are remembered. With "Alcornoques", on the other hand, one likes to think back to about half of the fairways. You often hit the valley from above, preferably over deep gorges with official bushes - it's fun.

Both semi-circles are not easy, the tracks are quite narrow and very hilly (cart recommended!).

The greens are particularly tricky. Well maintained, very fast and so undulating that the breaks are difficult to read. Knowledge of the green would be helpful - without a chip plus 2 or more putts are hardly avoidable.

The rest of the condition is also largely good - only around a few greens are there several zones with "ground under repair".

Unfortunately, the facility does not meet its own "high" standards (and thus also the green fee of around 100 euros/person):
You will look in vain for any information that goes beyond the length of the respective lane on the scorecard and tee boards. Since the cart does not have a working GPS system either, the course of the track, the location of obstacles and the like have to be guessed at. The cart does have a cool box - but without water, ice or other coolants this is unfortunately rather useless.

Conclusion: There is - at least for "Alcornoques" - still plenty of "room for improvement", therefore "only" 3 stars. You can "take the course" with you if you are in the area anyway, you do not have to go there (especially for the regular green fee). (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 6 out of 10 points.)

Pinos (bad) and Alcornoques (good)

Pinos is an absolutely boring place and also unfair due to extremely hanging tracks (loss of the ball with good shots). The condition is absolutely below average, only the greens are excellent.

In contrast, the Alcornoques is in much better shape and offers a lot of variety. Beautiful holes around a lake complete the game. We could have given this loop 4 stars.
Unfortunately, there were endless problems with the booking, since emails didn't arrive and advance payment was required. A bad habit that is becoming more and more widespread. The parking situation is absolutely unsatisfactory and also fun because you have to carry your bag to the caddy master.
For 220 € including buggy for two people in March 2023 there are better places for me. If we get the chance to play Lagos and Alcornoques I could be persuaded.

Well

When you see the clubhouse and grounds you expect a top golf course.
Place and resort do not go together.
Nevertheless it was a unique experience.
Four of us played Los Pinos + Los Alcornoques, the beautiful Los Lagos was unfortunately closed. The coffee afterwards was the best.

Once 5* once 3*

We played Los Lagos + Los Pinos in January 2023.
Lagos is really nice, you play around (and over) some lakes and it's really fun.
Pinos is then rather boring, well, nice holes, but the day after you can no longer get a picture of all 9 holes, which is possible with Lagos.
The condition in January 2023 was TOP, as was the pace of the game. Maybe it was because the hotel was occupied by HSV and no golfers stayed.
The parking lot is very clear, if you're late, you'll probably have to park in the underground car park.
The staff was very nice, the caddy master drove us ahead of us from the clubhouse to the 1st tee Lagos - which is really far away. Otherwise it would have been difficult to find.
I can't say anything about the gastro due to the lack of use.

No driving range, otherwise very nice

Like the previous reviewers, we played Pinos and Lagos. The 9L loops have very different characters, which makes the game varied. In contrast to the previous reviews, we found both courses in very good condition.
Game speed was very good, which was probably also due to the fact that we played on Mondays and there wasn't much going on. Gastro, Secretariat and Caddy Master were extremely friendly.
We will definitely play there again.

Two Faces

The two 9-hole loops that can currently be played could hardly be more different.
Pinos is an average course with average condition, Lagos is a very well maintained, challenging round. The third 3-hole loop is currently being renovated, due to the state of development and maintenance one could assume that Lagos has already done this work and that it is still to come on Pinos.

Holes 3-7 on Lagos, which stretch around the two eponymous lakes, are outstanding. Well maintained, beautiful to look at and playfully super interesting.

Currently only 2x9 and no driving range - that shouldn't exist in Sotogrande

We played Pinos and Lagos at the end of Jan 2021. The new hotel and clubhouse looks great and shines in bright white. The reception was friendly. But we were amazed when we were told that there was no longer a driving range and that you could only putt. The staff also couldn't tell if there will ever be a DR again or not. We looked at the old DR. It is overgrown, not maintained and obviously rubble / excavation was dumped there. The 9L "Pinos" are getting old and not really well maintained. The discounts and the greens are fine or good. The fairways don't look well maintained, the whole environment doesn't seem to be maintained with much effort. The 9L "Lagos" are in better condition and definitely worth a round of golf. The course is not easy to play, but it is always exciting and on the 9L "Lagos" the only pity is that the lakes are empty or completely empty.

Dried out

Dry place, especially going on Pinos makes it difficult to place the balls properly in this dry state. Greens ok and staff courteous. For two stars - otherwise not recommended until not rain falls properly and the fairways start to green again.

Good, varied, but difficult place

On the 3.10.19 we recorded the 9-seaters Los Alcornoques and Los Lagos.
Both courses were in good condition, but the grasses on the fairways were slightly dry and there were no grasses off the fairways. The greens were all fast and wavy.

In particular Los Alcornoques was a difficult place with very strong slopes, which made the use of a driver impossible. Here was a wood 5 or the iron beater used, in any case, precision work was required.

Unfortunately, the large lakes painted on the scorecard of Los Alcornoques were all dehydrated, which did not look good visually.

With a few exceptions, in our opinion, the two above-mentioned places are not suitable for long hitter who prefer wide and straight fairways. In addition, the players should bring a medium to low handicap, as well as a long experience in playing golf.

We will certainly play Almenara Golf again because he has demanded our best golf. Next time we will choose the combination of Los Lagos and Los Pinos to rate Los Pinos as well.

Almenara Golf is recommended for experienced golfers!

Good alternative to the expensive places in the area

Played the combination Los Pinos and Los Lagos in February 2019, I am a bogey player myself, beautiful tracks, up and down, interesting holes, condition well..., as the Albrecht golf guide on the remark, "Together with Sotogrande and Valderama das Nonplusultra"comes, but I can not understand.
Cart recommended.

Beautiful plant

We played Los Lagos & Los Pinos. Fairways and greens are in good condition. The tracks are varied and fun. Los Lagos is played around a lake and Los Pinos mostly in a very beautiful parkland. Overall, a good alternative to the sometimes very expensive places in the vicinity. Buggy recommended.

Good, not top

Combi: Lagos + Pinos Certainly not among the top 5 on the Costa del Sol, as some write. There are better, maybe a little more expensive.
Nevertheless, Los Lagos is very beautiful and has super interesting fairways, water and a two nice tees from above. Both courses require precision, the tracks are sometimes narrow. The 5 of Los Lagos is practically not reachable with the 2nd, if you do not make it right into the bend of the dogleg with the drive (white 230 meters, yellow 200), then the trees are in the way.
Los Pinos is less attractive in my opinion, which does not mean uninteresting. Fairways and greens are well maintained (August!).
Conclusion: for the summer green fee of 60 euros including buggy it was worth it.

Great alternative in the area for the same money, Alcaidesa links or for more money Real Sotogrande

Interesting alternative

7.4.2018, combination Los Alcornoques + Los Lagos

Highly recommended alternative to the overpriced places Valderrama and Sotogrande Real in the vicinity!

A buggy is very helpful. The road from Alcornoques 9 to Los Lagos 1 is far.

Alcornoques has very challenging tracks and lives up to its name (cork oak), Los Lagos goes around a large lake.
The layout of both courses is very appealing, the undulating greens are fast as arrows.

Pleasing 27 holes

Played 9/16/2016 Los Pinos / Los Alcornoques and at 17.9. Los Lagos. The 27-hole course is located in a bounded resort with villas and hotel a little back from the coast in absolute peace and nature. It is recommended that all three loops necessarily a cart as it passes through mountains and valleys and at times also longer distances between the tees. Compared to the other plants in the region is the place something spectacular (eg highly elevated tees), often closer reductions, especially in Los Pinos (for here a little water). The tracks are a little bit worse compared maintained, often times bald patches on the fairways. However, the strong crimp greens were good and fast. Overall, the tracks varied and with many challenges and all three loops are created very differently. Height HC should have enough balls thereby. The rule green fee is absolutely reasonable, especially compared to neighboring plants and if you book online through the website still receives an additional discount. The season was busy during our visit, however, is obtained almost always too short a start time on one of the three loops. Only a cart (unfortunately without GPS / but there is illustrated tee tablets) should not pre-reserve, otherwise there remains only the arduous transition to walk. Toilets on all three loops after 3-5 holes available. The Associate in Proshop was friendly and the caddy master helpful. The driving range is not directly at the clubhouse. If you want to pursue so, you have to drive to some distant golf school. This is rather suboptimal. Following the round can be seen on the terrace in the sun or under large umbrellas with a beautiful view over the plant very delicious and inexpensive food to the sea. Certainly no need to play here, but certainly a cheaper alternative in the region.

One of the top 5

The square is one of the Top 5 of the Coste del Golf. The three 9-hole tracks are so different that each one has the feeling of depending on their composition, to play on a different course. Beautifully are the old cork oak on the "alcornoque course".

Price -Leisungs ratio not ok

Played the Course C Lagos / Pinos mid-October 2015. The condition of Lagos was very objectionable: the Vorgruens were not mow the fairways were badly playable in some hard ground and bunkers after heavy rain falling in the week before still muddy. Pinos was comparatively better - the consequences of the visit a boars at hole 6 had not yet been resolved even at the late afternoon. Conclusion: a lot when compared to other places in the area to more expensive space in poor quality.

3 times a nice 9 holes,

But in the immediate vicinity there are so many better places.
I've only ever played 1 times because I lived in the hotel.

The condition of places was very good, the courts are also very varied and challenging to play, but nothing special. The very friendly staff brings the 4th point.

Very nice is the view from the clubhouse terrace, but the place is quite expensive compared to the surrounding.

27 holes offer interesting combinations

We played the course three times and could thereby get to know all the combinations of the 27-hole course. After heavy rains, the place was not in good condition, even after three dry days the trains were partially swampy. The damage to the bunkers, however, were eliminated quickly and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The condition is unfortunately in total need of improvement. But just "Los Alcornoques" offers challenging tracks and in combination with "Los Lagos" Do you have no respect for water. This course in conjunction with a stay at the NH Hotel Almenara is definitely worth the money.

Interesting and Recommended.

From 05:02:12 to 12:02:12 We were guests of the resort and had a package with daily green fees at a super price. Interesting is the combination of places "Los Pinos" with "Alcornoques" or "Los Lagos"
The seats were in a good condition, but were brown by the day, lack of water and partly Bermuda grass. The Surrounds and greens were perfect and green. The grounds were very well documented and there never was a problem with the posted start times. The Secretariat was very knowledgeable, relaying and flexible. The combination is knackigste Los Alcornoques and Los Lagos, there is a lot of water in play.
As the info Valderama course was also totally brown.

Toll-scale space, but not a good condition

Reception was unfortunately the first personal contact unfriendly and not very solution-oriented (probably lags the employee not the club in general) have a start time canceled because tournament on a course and no buggies were available (would you even can say when booking .. .). 2nd Start worked better (was also another employee at the front desk). The idea of combining the three nine-hole courses is good. Lagos and Alcornoques have played. Partially both places were in poor condition care, but the view was great and the holes created partly awesome. Both places were empty. We had a lot of time and a great day of golf. The driving range is somewhat below the reception, you have to ride in any event by car. If you do not live in the Almenara system, do the following before you bring the green fees at the reception, just go to the driving range. (Balls gibts for 1 euro on the ball machine).

4xgespielt within a week. Unfortunately, the 9-hole "Los Alcornoques" remained reserved us as disabled. In general, the leaves of maintenance to be desired. Often large-scale zones of ground under repair. Los Largos is nicely laid out and interesting; Los Pinos rather boring. Generally more of a place for low-HCP. These is the quiet location.

Caution!

Played on 19.11.2010: Despite the reservation start time (18 holes / four Flight) about the club aldiana we could actually play the only place Los Alcornoques (9 holes) 2x spot.
The course Los Alcornoques was in a very bad condition (hard fairway, many places ground under repair).

2x for the same 9 hole green fee is also (€ 55 incl buggy) not cheap. There was no prior information that the other 9-hole courses (the distance from the judges a better impression made) can not be recorded (tournament?).

Conclusion: not recommended!
