Yes, the course is relatively short, fairways are quite close to each other, but small and very fast greens, sometimes windy conditions and "tactically" placed bunkers make this a challenging and enjoyable course to play on.

The first golf course on the European continent can be found in France at the foot of the Pyrenees - Pau 1856 - initially 9 holes which were expanded to 18 holes after a short time. The oldest club outside Scotland is Royal Calccutta 1829 in India.
This course is located in the mountains, half an hour's drive south of Las Palmas, on the edge of an extinct volcano. Behind the clubhouse and the small hotel you can look into this 200 meter deep gorge - Caldera de Bandama. We stayed here on the first trip.
Here we put our tees into the ground for the first time in 1991, when golfers who had only been using the greens for 3 years. It was the first golf course we played in Spain - the handicap of the participants was around 20. At that time there were only two courses on the island, this one and Maspalomas and we played them alternately. Both were designed by Ross Mackenzie, who learned his trade from none other than Tom Simpson and was able to work during the golden age of golf course construction.
We travel here every 6 to 8 years, we are now on the island for the fifth time - could be our last visit.
It's a really old and beautiful campo, but not one of the top courses in Spain - that's our opinion - the layout is good. Such systems cannot compete with modern courses, nor is it necessary. The PracticeAerea is not the best, is inadequate in over 50% of all systems - these areas were hardly given the necessary attention.
Amazingly, Maspalomas is almost on a par with Real Club de Golf Las Palmas in the current list of the Top 100 Spain - in our opinion it does not fit at all. Maspalomas is to be removed from this list in its current state.
They have worked a lot on these hoyos since our first visit, many stones have been removed and palm trees and trees have been felled. The no man's land between tee and fairways is to be played properly today, but some of its originality was lost, there were tees where you played over palm forests to reach the fairway.
The fairways are good, the greens have always been very good here - these have often ruined our scores.
You have a certain amount of catching up to do in terms of maintenance, we have noticed that every time, but it fits in with such old courses. It can be called good.
