Super day, wonderful course

Played 18 holes at Heidelberg-Lobenfeld last week, visiting Heidelberg.
Wonderful course, very good condition, greens challenging, each hole offers something different but fit together as 18 holes perfectly.
The course is demanding but I liked it. Spectacular views from around the course. The rough had been cut but could be a bit heavy in summer.
First cut from fairway could also be a bit shorter - A 22 handicapper needs a bit of help sometimes!!
Overall - loved it! Friendly people, friendly staff and I didn't want to leave the terrace with the view across the course. As they say in German "herrlich"

The course fits in very well with the landscape, is very fair and varied - depending on the tea and strategy selection. Knowledge of the space is an advantage, but not required. There are many streams, lakes and trees - most of them in landscape protection or water protection areas, the terrain is well chosen. Nature and relaxing.
The club is not very large, but has extensive training facilities directly at the clubhouse and at the Biddersbacher Hof in the middle of the course. The well-maintained facility is complemented by shelters and toilets on the site. In addition, both the greens of holes nine and eighteen are located at the clubhouse. Members and guests are excellently looked after and cared for by the friendly staff, the spacious changing rooms, washing area and caddy house as well as the large number of carts.
There are parking spaces for mobile homes at Biddersbacher Hof.
The club's particular advantage is that there are no start times - which works smoothly.
Compared to other courses in the region, the course is well maintained, even if the challenging greens are only really fast in championship or larger tournament games - which is rather positive for the score for most players. From spring to autumn, the course is very playable even in dry years and is a highlight, even from the club terrace (after or before the round). After days of very heavy rain, the course can be very damp on some holes in winter, but the measures introduced this year are already having an improving effect on the fairways.

We played the course at the end of August. There was no need to reserve a start time. I know a few places in the region. I like Lobenfeld best. On the Campertour 2022, after a number of years of wishful thinking, there was finally a round on this GC, the telephone contact was very nice and informative (especially with regard to the pitch) so the journey was completely uncomplicated. The parking space for the WoMo is a good Par4 downhill from the clubhouse, next to the greenkeeping, you drive past the clubhouse through the golf course (between lanes 10 and 18) and there you will find a flat gravel area for 2 WoMos. There is probably also a power connection (not required). Due to the distance to the clubhouse, we had an extremely quiet afternoon and a good night. The greenkeepers started around 6am but they must have passed us quietly and we didn't notice them until later. By the way, there is also a chipping green next to the parking space, so you could still practice diligently in the evening...
The clubhouse terrace was still pretty empty on the day of arrival in the afternoon, the sun was beating down from the sky, but umbrellas were not put up on request because there was supposed to be a thunderstorm in the evening. We found it strange at least and sounded like an excuse... So we just had a drink (much too hot in the sun) and in the evening we also had something to eat (however, the service was overwhelmed with the parallel award ceremony of a women's tournament with 60 participants), the food came But in the end it was good, even if no bread, salt, pepper or balsamic vinegar was served with the tomato mozzarella (but it was served the next day).
The next day the two of us played a round on a really extraordinarily beautiful golf course, which is quite hilly and in some cases offers grandiose tee-offs. Great layout, a great, quite long course that we absolutely enjoyed despite the heat! Certainly one of the nicest places we've played on the trips so far (e.g. the 1st GC West Palatinate is in no way inferior) - and the wait was worth it, we'll definitely be back.
Nice conversations with the ProShop operator and the reception rounded off the golfing experience, that the gastro the day before was only partially on point, so it should only be mentioned here in passing and does not spoil the impression. After the round we enjoyed the good showers before we left and are already looking forward to the next time!

Every time I've played a different course, I come to the conclusion: "It's best to be at home in Lobenfeld".
In Lobenfeld, the distances from the range to the square are short, and all other facilities are only a stone's throw away from each other. You can orientate yourself well and don't have to walk a kilometer to get from A to B.
Our course is in excellent condition, the fairways are green and there are no dry, dusty spots. The greenkeepers do a great job both on the course and on the practice facilities.

The ladies in the secretariat are friendly and helpful, you always feel welcome when you are at the counter.

The criticism of the 6-hole course is justified, selling this area to a real golfer as a "course" is actually window dressing. O. k, a playground for children and absolute beginners. The 18 is unfortunately muddy in autumn and you lose countless balls in the sodden ground. The sometimes unfriendly club members don't create a welcoming atmosphere. Sullen and fast-playing golfers are sometimes not allowed through by older sports fans as a precaution. The course has some beautiful tracks but unfortunately also unimaginable lengths. Overall ok, no revelation and for 70E green fee certainly no place that makes you want a second round.

Heidelberg Praise field has always been a beautifully situated, attractive place, but much of the 40 years needed a refresher. The first nine holes are now converted - the results speak for themselves!
