Challenging

I play Echt-Susteren whenever I am visiting the Netherlands mostly with some friends. It can best be described as a heath-land course; ie an inland course with gentle, rolling fairways winding through a landscape full of bushes and shrubs with few large trees. It has some well placed bunkers and water hazard/features. The t-boxes, fairways and greens are well-kept. The greens are amazingly fast. Play, especially when there is wind (most of the time) is challenging as if one plays a links near the sea. Requiring strategy and tactics. The course is well maintained and playable throughout the year. People are welcoming and simply seem to love golf. A pleasant golf challenge, especially the semi-island whole 9 is full of character and hole 6 is one of the longest in the Netherlands.

Nothing special

9 holes.
Flat course, goes through meadows and fields, also along some rows of trees. There's a lot of water, but that doesn't really come into play.
Clubhouse and parking lot a bit run down.

Really difficult in real life

Played on 9/21/2020. The facility with an attached 12-hole short / practice course is somewhat hidden in absolute peace and nature between fields and pastures next to a holiday resort directly behind the German border south of Roermond in the middle of nowhere. Hard to find without GPS. The somewhat hidden access from the main road is via a cycle expressway, but cars are also allowed to drive on it (rather unfamiliar for Germans). My reviewer must have had a bad day. At least when I played my game on a sunny Monday lunchtime, the parking lot was so full that I hardly got any. Since I was without a reservation, I had to wait 1.5 hours until the next free start time. I spent the time free of charge on the driving range where you can pull balls from the machine with euro pieces. The flat 9-hole course is certainly not a noble meadow with a full PAR 36, but it wasn't that bad either. Of course the fairways had bare and dry spots after the prolonged drought, but it was mowed. It is true that the tees must have seen better days, but there, too, I always found an opportunity for a straight stand and the tee. The greens were partially watered and rather slow due to the moisture. It was a bit annoying that you had to remove the strong shedding of the trees first. The layout of the tracks is sometimes quite tough. There are some narrow aisles and water hazards that should be played strategically, otherwise the ball can quickly be lost due to high rough, exclusion and dense bushes. Lanes 3,6, 8 and 9 are interesting, where you have to play over water hazards or even around the corner. Real not just real! The green fee of € 30 on weekdays and € 33 on weekends is appropriate and is paid in the busy but friendly cellar in the restaurant. The clubhouse is certainly a bit rudimentary, but it is functional enough for a 9-hole course. The members were friendly and, unlike me, used the restaurant. The game was busy, the parking lot only emptied a little towards the afternoon. So if you are close by, love strategic play instead of long drives and do not expect a noble meadow, you are in good hands here.

It doesn't get any worse!

First of all it should be noted that the place apparently has a new operator. At the weekend I booked 9 holes. Since I knew the place from the past, I was surprised that there were only a few cars in the parking lot on Sundays at 12.30 p.m. I booked and paid 9 holes. When I asked about the range, they wanted to sell me a range card with 10 tokens for 10 euros, which of course I didn't want. Now they wanted to charge an additional 5 euros for their use, which I also declined with thanks. It should be mentioned positively about the place that it has an interesting layout. Lots of water, lots of well-placed bunkers and a few doglegs. Then it went around. The discounts were more than in need of improvement. Then came the fairways. Fairways? - Nothing! The entire place was unmowed and that on the weekend! The same was true for the greens. Here too, uncut, bumpy and accordingly unplayable.
Overall, one had the impression that a new cross golf course has been created here...
In my opinion, the place is not worth 10 euros in this condition.

Let `s - nice game -

Kept golf course, with plenty of water, interesting ondolierten fairways, the greens are moderately fast, but well defended by sand and water.
Long hitters will feel at home, because there are "Hollands" longest fairway from Standardtee.
Training opportunities OK Secretariat courteous.
