Grand Rodez is an exciting and entertaining place in terms of layout and topography. it is quite wavy / hilly and has interestingly undulating greens. the architect has put a lot of effort into it. if the condition were as expected, a very solid 4-star rating would certainly be in it... but: would be...
unfortunately there are several BUT:
Fairways and tee boxes were one sad field today. you can't even seriously offer that as *rough*. there are only obstacles in the form of sand bunkers. these are well and maliciously placed, but hardly playable, the sand is almost concrete. the greens are dull, very bumpy and sometimes in bad condition - the greens were still the best in the whole place. but not only the place, also the driving range and the clubhouse are in a desolate condition. the friendliness in the pro shop, both in the tee-time reservation and in the registration, was also very limited.
Conclusion: if the place hadn't had the class described above, then a smooth 1-star rating would have been due. so it became two.
finally something positive: the 19th hole entertains its guests at an unexpectedly good level. the 3-course lunch menu was remarkably good.
