At first there is no driving range, you can only play in a net cage. Everyone who plays golf knows that this is no substitute for a range. From there it's a 10-minute walk to tee 1. What is that supposed to be?
According to the architecture, the course is actually very beautiful and demanding, but currently in a lousy condition. The highly acclaimed greens were very dark in color, apparently because they had recently been fertilized. It also stank accordingly. Nine holes were just bearable, but then the smell was unpleasant and annoying. Nobody said that at reception.
There is a toilet on the square, although the condition is such that you don't really want to do anything there. Overall, we were very disappointed and immediately canceled a further scheduled start time. It is incomprehensible to us how one can charge 90 € for such a system. We played it twice. For the first time 9 holes in transit. An experience of a different kind. It is a nice marketing gimmick to call the course in Eppan near Bolzano "The Blue Monster", because the (so far) 9 holes are not really difficult to play - it is so much fun!
The landscape there is perfectly flat, but a lot of modeling work and a number of cleverly positioned bunkers have created a challenging, left-like layout. There is also a lot of water, mostly on the side, sometimes also on the front. Especially on the grandiose 5, a dogleg to the left, the large lake on the left accompanies you from the tee to the green. And you don't see any trees. In summer you can think of an umbrella and plenty of water.
The large greens are very well maintained, track-true and interestingly undulating - and stand out from the fairway with their dark green grass from a distance. Looks great!
Occasionally I was slightly irritated in which direction to play. Once at a stop and a second time on the fairway of 4, from where I could not see the flag / the green and almost played a hole.
If you are passing Bolzano on your way south, you should not miss this place! Two more tips: If you (like me) enter "Golf Eppan" in the iPhone navigation system (maps), you will end up on the mountain a few kilometers away - just like me... So enter the correct address. And don't plan your arrival too tightly. It's about 500 meters from the new, chic clubhouse to the first tee!
The place didn't have the fascination of Son Gual or Achental entirely on me. Maybe because the expectations were too high.
