Characteristics

Each hole has a special design and a particular name that already hints at what to expect. For instance, there is hole 5, "Tidal Pool", where you will find either water - or not. Number 7, "Mangrove", suggest that you will hardly find a lost ball in the mangrove jungle. "Cat and Mouse" indicates the volcano that dominates the island and is the background for the 12 hole, a 418 m long par 4.

With such a golf course, presenting itself under these tropical conditions from the start in the best of lights, it is not surprising that it does not lack, either, in other facilities belonging to a golf course. Only one word can describe the club house at the northern end of the course, which includes a lounge, restaurant and lockers: fantastic. The training facilities - driving range, pitching and putting area, target greens - are also first-class.

Definitely play…

June 2024, played 7 times in total! Beautifully laid out course, as it rained several times during that time the fairways and greens were a bit soft, but this was more of an aid to the game than a hindrance! The course is well maintained, but as with almost all courses in the world, there are pitch marks on the greens, which unfortunately have not been repaired. Overall, the course is not very long, but accurate play is required, as the fairways are not very wide. Some hidden obstacles swallow balls the first time, but if you can play the course several times, you can get there with fewer balls. The 17th is a challenge from the white, depending on the tee, it is also 170m carry, but it is a lot of fun! The boat trip is also something special and the reception and service is always very friendly and helpful! Everything was always very relaxed and calm here, no rush and/or time pressure, very pleasant! The buggy cost around €27 for me alone, absolutely fine! Green fee is around €150, but was included in my hotel. Overall, highly recommended if you're here!

Our number 2 in Mauritius

My wife and I (Hcp 13 and 17) played both Anahita and Illes de Cerfs in April 2024 and we liked Anahita better, but the courses are also very different.

As guests of the Shangri La Hotel, we only paid for the buggy (50€) including use of the range with balls. As everywhere in Mauritius, the reception was friendly, balls for the range and water cost extra - just a small amount, but it was included in Anahita.

First of all, and very strange: the course is much shorter than indicated on the score card. It has nothing to do with yards or meters, because that is sometimes 20%. The display in the cart works, though.

There are 4 tee boxes, I played from white and managed it pretty well, even though at 62 I'm no longer a long hitter.

However, on the 17th there is a 150 meter carry shot slightly uphill (but there is a dropping zone on the other side), which I had to use despite a good shot.

Otherwise: The course is very well maintained, but the fairways are often narrow and you can't always see where you are going. There is also a lot of water and ditches - so take enough balls with you, as there are a few traps lurking. That's why it only gets 4 stars.

Conclusion: a special course that you can definitely play if you are nearby. If you only have time for one course, Anahita is our favorite.
