The hotel is beautifully situated directly on the sea, the view from the room is really fantastic. We were upgraded to a Premium Double Room on the 9th floor (the package appears to include a Prestige Double Room category - both the same size according to the website), but we can't really tell the difference from the other rooms. We found the room spacious, with enough space in the bathroom and enough storage space in the closet and space for suitcases and golf equipment.
The cleanliness is good, but the hotel and especially the rooms and the bathroom are showing their age. We clearly wouldn't see it as a 5 star hotel. Some of the furnishings are already worn out, there are no sockets in the bathroom, for example, and the lighting is rather dim.

Most of the staff is very friendly (there are exceptions everywhere).

The breakfast selection was ok, the local fruit and freshly prepared egg dishes were very good. The selection of muesli/flakes/grains/seeds/bread/jams could be improved. At dinner you will find something - most likely with the starters, but the selection of main courses was manageable, not very varied and the vegetables were overcooked throughout. Even with the desserts, few variations. In our opinion, the biggest discrepancy to a 5 star hotel is shown at dinner in the buffet restaurant. The Dine Around concept offers 4 options according to the package offered (and also the hotel's website), here the buffet restaurant is already included. Of the 3 other options, 1 restaurant has been closed since Corona, which we only found out on site. We can recommend the Italian and the Portuguese restaurant.

The general indoor wellness and swimming area doesn't really deserve its name, you don't want to spend time there. Although the spa was included in the package, we were not allowed in (we would have been interested to see what it looks like in there) - but then we didn't want to discuss it further with the lady in charge.

The concrete bathing platform would do well with more green plants, but in general it's nice to swim in the sea and the saltwater pools.

The two golf courses are excellent and offer spectacular views. There are large differences in height to be overcome, with the pull trolley a very sporty affair!
The transfers to the Santo da Serra golf course were always on time, those to the Palheiro golf club were up to 20 minutes late. In general, the pick-up times for both courses are far too short, so you don't always make it to the tee on time! There is definitely no time to import when the system is running at full capacity. We imagine that to be difficult in the high golf season, there isn't much going on on the courses in summer, so it was still possible. Right after the 1st day we tried to move the shuttle forward for the remaining days, without success. And that despite the fact that we were almost always the only people on the shuttle.

Conclusion: A very beautiful island, great golf courses, hotel in order - there is room for improvement
