The course is very confusing with bad signage. At times we had no idea if we were on the right fairway. The 5th appears on the back of the scorecard as going alongside the road but that is the 15th. The online distance indicators also partly show the wrong holes. The course itself (in early June) had no brown patches but a lot of clover on the fairways and the greens weren‘t great. Worst of all is the green fee. They show it on their website as €50. When we arrived, we were told that is the fee for Italian golfers and foreigners must pay €80! Having driven there, we paid but even if it is legal, they should warn people on the website. The girl behind reception did then give us a voucher for two free drinks. For €50 it is at the limit given the state of the course but €80 is basically a disgrace. Conclusion: Don‘t bother

That is basically commendable and you can be confronted with it on every golf course - but then it is usually pointed out before the game (or already when booking) and the green fee is almost always reduced. It doesn't seem to matter there... I've never played such a unkempt and run-down course as in Villafranca - and that's almost 100 now.
The layout is even more adventurous than the state of the course. Wild birds are nested in the webs. Occasionally one has the impression that the numbers of the tees were simply scattered over the place. From some greens you walk forever to the next tee, passing other tees and fairways. Helpful signage is rarely found. Of course, the operators know about the mess and therefore hand out a map at the registration desk, but that too is so indistinct and hardly legible for people who wear glasses that it doesn't help much either. To top it all off, a footgolf course has also been integrated into the golf course. The flags of its holes are still everywhere and with the already confusing layout you can't tell from a distance whether the flags belong to the green or to footgolf. But it's not just the horribly bad place that spoils the golf mood, but also everything around it is just sad.
