As soon as you arrive - past the architecture typical of Semmering with wooden balconies and half-timbered buildings, the legendary Südbahnhotel, which has been gnawed by the ravages of time - you realize that this is a special area. And the impression continues in the clubhouse, which could be quite sophisticated and cozy at the same time, if it weren't for the ravages of time... it has a morbid appeal, and there is probably no point in applying standards like a place in the Flat land.
The course is short, but you don't stand straight anywhere except on the tee. Golf courses have been adapted to the least rugged landscape there (in the immediate vicinity of Höllental, Adlitzgräbenschlucht). This means that the usual pitch lengths are no longer necessary. And often you play the green blind over a knoll. There are no bunkers or water, but that doesn't mean that you can find your ball safely. Because the steep embankments all around are not mowed and swallow the balls that you can only get out with a fishing rod, because you cannot play for lack of standing. Different golf, weird.
The people are consistently nice and - contrary to the weird motto - what you call a straight Michl. Calm and direct, without vanity.
At the moment there is no gastronomy there, you can get drinks for the round, but not eat warm afterwards. Too bad. The heat of summer is not as biting as in the valley. The view is wonderful - the Rax, the railway line, a stylish villa. You can well imagine that hickory tournaments take place here, then it’s just like it was back then... when the who’s who of Austrian literature and the art scene frequented this place.
Conclusion: weird. Time travel. More hiking than golf. But worth seeing.

Golf course: Except for two very long par 3 (of yellow respectively over 200 meters) the courses are quite short. Often you have to beat over the top and play the greens blindly. You should play the course at least twice, because due to some parallel courses and only a water barrier (which hardly comes into play) one can risk more than it seems at first glance.
Location: very good
Conclusion: Even if it does not quite correspond to my ideas of a golf course, the oldest place in Austria (founded in 1926) is worth visiting not only because of its beautiful landscape.

Half of the greens not playable because just watered (at 9:30!).

Upon arrival you get the feeling that, that time has stopped here in a positive sense. As one of the oldest clubs in Austria and also due to the geographical features of each modernization attempt would be an enormous risk, in every respect.
The clubhouse and restaurant are from the turn of the century, the staff are extremely friendly. Practice facilities are available, but relatively far away -> you'd have to go by car, relaxed import before the round is not so.
The square itself has no bunkers, water is relatively rare. The difficulty of the course lies in the topography as well as the relatively small greens. Two thirds of the reductions carried out blind, in the first round of the course is almost unplayable.
