Elysium
Paphos, Cyprus Save for laterSite of amusement and delight
In the south-west of the island, where it is a little more peaceful, it’s particularly the firstclass luxury hotels that try to woo the guests.
In the first place is the Beach & Golf Resort Elysium, a luxurious five-star hotel in a Byzantic-style that was opened up five years ago. Directly at the sea, embedded in a large garden, the palace-like resort has thanks to architectual elements like a drawbridge, colonnades, mosaics and waterfalls a special character with a historical ambience.
You reside stylishly in 250 climatised rooms, suites & villas. The guest rooms are furnished with dark wood furniture in a Cyprus style that is emphasized with soft earthy tones. The Royal Wing Suites are situated a bit apart with their own pool and view on the sea and the hotel garden. Five restaurants offer everything from a snackbar to a culinary experience, according to your own preferences.
The name „Elysium“ comes from the Greek mythology and translated it means: „A place of amusement and of eternal delight“. The hotel keeps that promise with several swimming pools, lawns, an amphitheatre, the hotel’s own wedding chapell and a spaciously arranged “Opium Health Spa”. Apart from the Turkish Haman you can also choose from very different Western and Far Eastern treatments, from massages, hydro therapies and detoxation programmes. A fitness centre, a diving school, tennis courts as well as three golf course complete the sport offer. Cyprus’ newest golf course is the Aphrodite Hills Golf Club(18/par71). It is situated about 20 kilometres away from Paphos on a hill above the rock, where Aphrodite is said to have ascended from the sea, and gifts the player with magnificent views over the sea. Especially spectacular is here the fairway 7 that leads right through a canyon and has to be played over another 210 metres deep canyon with an all in all altitude difference of 30 metres.
The Secret Valley Golf Club (18/par 71) is situated in the east of Paphos, leads with broad fairways through the “Taciturn Valley” with reddish rock formations, and is ideal to play even for beginners. Just in the middle of Paphos in the south and Polis in the north there’s the third course on an altitude of 600 metres, the Tsada Golf Club (18/72) in the middle of a monastery from the 12th century. You play between olive, cedar and nut trees and little vine yards – make sure you have plenty of balls – a wonderful contrast to the other courses.
Have a nice game!
