Characteristics

The 18 hole, par 72, Peter Thomson designed links style course opened in February 1996. The par 4, 4th ( Hcp 1) is an absolute brute of a hole, playing at 440 yards from the back tees and uphill all the way. Not a hole for the faint hearted. This hole is an exception as the key to scoring well, points more towards accuracy than length. More so, considering there is 94 well-placed bunkers to catch any stray shots. You will find many streams and lakes throughout the 18 holes but not all are in play. The course offers all levels of golfers an enjoyable round with a chance to score well.

Many of the holes are set with beautiful mountain backdrops, so if your game goes to the pack at least the course and it’s backdrops will be pleasing to the eye. All Tees, Fairways and Roughs are grassed with 419 Bermuda grass and Greens with imported Tiff Dwarf Bermuda grass. A practice putting and chipping green, as well as a driving range are available for you to fine tune your skills before attacking the course.

Nice golfcourse

The course is in a very good condition and the lay-out is challenging. The only negative part is the amount of foreign groups (mainly Korean) who block the course for a certain time. Restaurant facilities are nice and prices reasonable. The hotel just next to the clubhouse is surely a good option if you want to take an early departure.

No suitable price-performance ratio

The name promises more than how the golf course presents itself.
After the long journey from Chiang Mai City (day taxi for THB 2,000.00) we were somewhat disappointed by the condition of the place, the friendliness of the staff and the clubhouse.
As in other high-class resorts, the price in the Hochsaion is THB 4,800 for 18-hole green fees, cart, and caddy fees plus a caddy tip. This is definitely too expensive for this golf course.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place.

Too bad for this beautiful place

We played a round in January 2013 a few places in Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Hua. The Royal Chiangmai Golf Course is a beautiful and interesting design course with very fast greens. But the organizational side unfortunately leaves much to be desired. The staff is rude and annoyed and caddies look stressed. The toilets on the course you should not use better.
