The Cascades at Soma Bay Golf and Country Club is not only the first golf course open for play on the Western Red Sea coast, but also the first Championship Course in the Middle East designed by one of the "Big Three" (Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer). The 18 hole, par 72 course offers memorable views of the lush green fairways that contrast dramatically with the rugged desert and the clear blue sea waters. Adjacent to the Championship course, is the 9 hole, Par 3 Challenge Course, also designed by Gary Player, that offers both the beginner and the more advanced golfer the opportunity to practice a variety of shots with emphasis on the short game. The Par 3 Challenge Course serves the Golf Academy where individual and group tuition by PGA Golf Professionals is available. Gary Player course in the desert Arab Spring

Despite the Arab spring, we were probably the coldest winter, which Egypt has long been experienced in January 2012 for a week guests at the hotel "La Résidence des Cascades" in Soma Bay. This week we were able to The Cascades 18-hole golf course (designed by Gary Player) 3x play on.
The course is a mixture of left and Desert Course. Surrounded by sand and fine gravel (though logically hard) fairways and fast, beautifully tended greens. Water hazards are minimal, because the biggest obstacle is the sea water, which is mainly - noticed on the seeing and worth playing track 5 (modeled Pebble Beach) - but not only there. Although the course is almost entirely flat, the steady, strong wind makes it sometimes difficult. One should as far as possible the fairways aptly because beats from the desert (Waste-area) are uncomfortable (especially because the stones in the sand). The toughest opponent on the court is and remains the (often strong) winds.
Unfortunately, the place has torn apart a little, because the tracks are very far from each other, ie, the square is not a unit, but you play it anyway to the resort around.
I personally did not mind, because the paths to the next tees are well signposted.
Driving range and 9-hole course we have not tested.
Probably due to the somewhat tense situation in Cairo far away were fewer guests than normal to visit - both on the golf course and in the adjacent hotel / resorts. I know the place for some years and the beginning of March 2013 reached a new low. With the maintenance state, it goes on and on downhill. The service is not worth the word. Starting with the lackluster staff in the pro shop, which has more interest in his newspaper as the sale of green fees. At the start there were good Trolleys for an extra Euros. The flights were too often pushed to the full court. Already on the second hole significant delays were due. The Marshalls have not anything against slow playing against beginners yet done jostling flights though you were under fire. End of February 2013, we have played this acclaimed course. With a taxi, we are driven over from Makadi. First optical impression upon arrival was very good. But the impression was marred fast: In the pro shop, we solved the green fee. The price of 75 euro is fine and quite appropriate. The friendliness left unfortunately, difficult to be desired.
We went to the driving range, which did not like us, only Matt haircuts and no one who is a balls. A ball machine was not available. When someone finally came, it was anything but friendly. It was annoying and made us feel that too.
The place was sold out and a starter looked that tee times were met on time. This was very pleasant and professionally. The individual tracks really very nicely and in perfect condition. The greens are very fast and also very well maintained. The oceanfront holes are naturally beautiful and very difficult to play in the wind... a real challenge. The wind is in this place but the only difficulty, because the place is totally flat and did not unduly obstructed barriers.
The course as a whole, we did not particularly like, because we have not really felt it was a related course, but much more than 18 individual tracks and a lot of sand in between and sometimes travel long distances to the next tee.
