The huge hunting area that once belonged to the Savoy royal family is now a nature reserve, we play golf here - great - on four courses!!!
Two courses that are among the best in Italy, with Robert Trent Jones Sr. clearly the better - for decades in the top five, rightly so - this year he even wears the crown!
He managed to turn the former 9 Holes Course into a small American-style work of art.
However, it is very difficult to play, typical Jones...
You have to play this several times to get along with him, because a heavy par and a light bogie is his layout strategy!!
The many long and narrow tea shapes remind us of Scotland or Ireland.
Surprisingly few fairway bunkers that are directly in play, which are mostly for the long hitters to force them to reason!!!
The greens here are usually only average, making them difficult to play, with great bunker landscapes. The greens play excellently.
It is basically a course for the driver, almost always enough space, it is often really necessary...
Getting angry about the distance from the tee to the start of the fairway is useless, you have to choose the tees according to your skills!!!
They were very thankful for the wet from above, unfortunately it became a bit much at once in the days before our visit.
Therefore, the playing conditions were far from ideal, the ground was wet and deep, and the machines could not be used everywhere. The work was severely delayed due to the weather. The long par 4 even mutated into par 5 - not a single meter would give up the ground. If you didn't hit the fairway, the ball was hard to find, haven't deposited so many balls in a long time...
No question, full five stars under normal conditions - unfortunately there are deductions today - the weather and the delayed work are responsible.
Michale Hurdzan and Dana Fry have redesigned the 12 hole course - which was created as a training course by Robert Trent Jones.
This is how the Pramerica came about - that's what the course used to be called.
He's not in the league of his neighbors and can't keep up - but it's also a good course.
It's much more open, has more fairway bunkers - it's created for an offensive game strategy - was hardly possible today due to the conditions. The greens seem much larger to us and tend to be easier to play.
Very competent staff...
Both courses can be given five stars for the layout - we give five stars to the Trent Jones Course and four stars to the Pramerica Course.
For the course maintenance there are unfortunately only three stars for the Trent Jones - was the first course we played - four stars for the Pramerica.
All in all, four stars!
Seems we've hit the weather window, with significant rainfall expected towards the end of the week...
The four big ones in the northern region are: this one, Villa D'Este, Biella, Torino Blue - which one is the favorite is a matter of taste...

At the beginning of February, expectations are also rather modest in the Piedmont. Accordingly, I didn't have any great expectations - I was in Turin for work anyway and really just wanted to soak up some sun.
The first pleasant surprise on the phone when the charming lady suggested to me that after the 18 holes on the Hurdzan-Fry I could maybe add a few holes on the Trent Jones Sr. - I would buy a daily green fee anyway.
The second surprise was the condition of both courses, they were in excellent shape for the beginning of February.
The third surprise was the speed of the game - despite various flights of four, I was able to play through both courses in 4:15 each. So, quite unexpectedly, I was able to play 36 holes for the price of a green fee.
The layout of the courts, however, wasn't surprising: word has gotten around that the Trent Jones Sr. is a wonderfully established classic and the Hurdzan-Fry is a refined tournament course.

Very nicely integrated into the landscape, nice to look at, a stream runs through several fairways, which makes it a lot more difficult. (But fishing rods are ready) No two fairways are alike. Basically classified as a very slightly hilly parkland course. Negative - the fairway was hardly recognizable as such. Almost no difference to the lateral surfaces. The balls also had to be found on the fairway. Very different grass growth. No trace of maintenance of the fairway. Blaming everything on the possible dry summer would be too easy. Firstly, with a green fee of €90, there should be enough water available, and secondly, places nearby are a lot better maintained.
His "brother Hurdzan" next door is just a little more open and has fewer streams running through it. As on most courses in Italy, however, there are a lot of pitch marks and the divots on the course are simply left lying.
A rating of 4 stars is quite exaggerated. At least for the Hurdzan - Course 2 stars would be justified. Played in the KW. 40

Becomes. h 6 people - have in the last week the Trent Jones sen. Played the course and were disappointed in the end. The place that was so highly praised did not live up to what we had hoped for. But maybe it was just the fact that we had previously played the great courses at Villa d'Este and Biella le Betulle. Might be.
But first things first: spacious, sophisticated facility, large pro shop, unfortunately no shaded parking spaces, separate lockable lockers for guests in the changing room, very competent and friendly secretariat, helpful caddy master. Place in good condition (sometimes a little too much watered), layout quite interesting with many small streams, but what didn't work at all was the start of the fairway at about 120-150m and the semi-rough with a cutting height of about 15cm. If there was a ball there, it was hard to find, let alone play for the average golfer. That pretty much robbed us of the fun of the place, despite the beautiful surroundings, which, however, do not come close to the two places mentioned above.
Big disappointment at the end: the restaurant had already closed at 4:00 p.m. so we had to be content with the bar. The fourth star cannot be awarded for this reason either.

Trent Jones 18 hole and Panamerica front 9 played... the place of Meistets is currently a bit in hibernation... Greens good but relatively many places vermoost... fairways with some some Kahlstellen. Panamerica better in all areas. Too bad for such a top club, all the bunkers did not break loose and the unplayable (Circolo and le fronte ware loosened).
Staff very friendly and green fee applies for the day.

We played I Roveri, the R. Trent Jones sen. Place in July 2011 and found it both (10 hdc) breathtaking. Nevertheless, the well-placed bunkers and water hazards and strategically perfect used forest areas but to suggest a considered game.
