Dry fairways, bad greens.

If you're looking to have a decent round on a nice course don't go to Palm Hills. Greens are dramatically sloped so that you'll find it difficult stopping the ball by the hole. Expect several 3 putts if you are a single digit handicapper.
Often the rough is dry and unmowed should you get off the fairway slightly. The course just isn't in good shape.
When you consider the average foursome is spending $500 US you would think the owners would be smart enough to keep the course up. They aren't. And that attitude is everywhere around the course.

Solid place to start your holiday but very crowded

Played 3/4/24. The Palm Hills Golf Club is located north of the center of Hua Hin, practically in the immediate vicinity of the small airport (two planes landed there during our round) a little inland. You drive through the gated access to the resort and then about 2 km to the clubhouse. The signage is good. The resort is very large. However, many of the properties and houses are for sale. The development around the golf course is subtle; you play past a few stately villas. The clubhouse is large, attractive and relatively modern. There is an attached restaurant (not used). When you come from the parking lot, you first go to the Caddymaster, hand in your bags and give your start time. At the top of the pro shop you pay your green and caddy fees before you go to the starter house with the voucher. Here you will meet your caddy lady. The pro shop is relatively large and well equipped, and the employees are friendly. The standard green fee is currently 2,500 Bath (€65). The caddy fee is 350 Bath (9 €) + at least, the same amount is given as a TIP for the caddy lady after the round. The cart costs 650 Bath per player, with the caddy lady driving the cart and not the players. There is a driving range where you can take a swing. For 40 Bath you get 30 balls. The balls are apparently found balls and are already a bit worn. But totally fine for hitting. The course is absolutely flat, contrary to what the name Palm Hills suggests. There are some water hazards and bunkers but overall no real highlights. Most of the tees are very open and even warped balls are easy to find. Overall, the condition was okay. Certainly not a meadow but absolutely playable. The place is well suited to get used to the climatic conditions. Most players take a buggy, but you can also walk. The caddy ladies we had only spoke limited English, but overall they were good and friendly. Although they often type on their cell phones during breaks and occasionally make phone calls, unfortunately that is now “normal”. In any case, the tips on reading green were valuable. And the greens are the star on the course. Almost all of them are heavily undulated, fast and difficult to read. Unfortunately, three putts were the order of the day despite the caddy tips. The place was very full at our game. The starts are every 8 minutes and so what has to come with one flight of four after the other happened. We had a start time of 1:00 p.m. and were only able to start 30 minutes late. There were usually further waiting times on the PAR 3, so the round took 4.5 hours. There were three of us but there were almost only flights of four in front of us. There are aid stations and toilets throughout the round. You can buy drinks and usually something to eat there too. However, we were probably so late that all the sandwiches were already sold out or there weren't any available that day. All in all, a good opening round for us to start 8 rounds of golf at 8 different courses in Hua Hin.

Be sure to train caddies!

Course played on January 30th, 2024 Simple layout, green OK, I can't rate the bunker because it wasn't visited.
What prevented a better rating are the caddies. Mine couldn't speak any English except for the left / right / up / down words that were difficult to understand. But the biggest problem was that people always drove up. I held my caddy back several times. And my wife's caddy was promptly hit in the leg by a female teammate. Painful for the caddy and the person who caused it stopped 3 holes later.
Learning effect: Zero, the journey continued.
