As a member of the Munich Golf Club, I pay a membership fee every year.
What do I get for that?
A board of directors that steers the fortunes of the club for the members, which often leads to difficult negotiations with the landowners and the city of Munich, as one of the few clubs in Germany that achieves a balanced result year after year, and all this without a fee for the to get successful work.
A manager who, with his competent, always friendly team, ensures that all club activities run smoothly for members and guests, as well as for the tournaments and events.
Two greenkeepers who and their teams keep the courses in Straßlach and Thalkirchen in excellent condition for members and guests. (and the ruffs down)
A gastronomy that spoils members and guests with delicious food and a large selection of drinks after a round. I don't know of a nicer place for lunch and dinner than the MGC terraces in Staßlach and Thalkirchen.
And what do I do while everyone is busy? I play golf! And that without start times whenever I like. My membership fee has been my best investment for more than 45 years. Where can I get so much back for so little money? And if there are charges to make the club fit for the future, I'll be happy to pay them because the members before me did it for me too.

We played this course (our number 5) as part of our camper tour in June 2023, actually not on our bucket list because €120 GF was too expensive for us, but I had won a voucher and so we saved 50 %. Being allowed to stand in the parking lot with the camper wasn't a problem, it's big enough...
The check-in at the counter was very nice, the borrowed trolley was free with the full GF (you don't get that often either), the explanations of the ways were helpful.
We played C and B and the course was in very good condition. The lap was fun, but in the end the spark didn't jump over to us completely. The design is chic, you can remember a number of tracks afterwards (e.g. a nice par 5 is C6 - the view from above of the white bunkers below looks great). Overall, I found Course C to be quite nice and varied, flat, slightly hilly (actually just an ascent, lane 5 leads uphill in a wide arc, lane 6 just slightly downhill). The ball loss was also limited.
I found the second 9 (Course B) less spectacular - but basically there was a nice place here too. The first lane at the driving range (where HiO's fitting also takes place) is slightly uphill in a dogleg, the following lane is a fairly long par 3, after which the lanes run side by side. Everything in good condition, fixed greens, often invisibly undulating, sometimes threatening a 3 putt.
We ran into the pre-flight from lane 4 or 5, which in turn was waiting for the (very slow) 4-er in front of it, but you're not on the run...
The changing rooms / showers are very nice, everything you need after the round is there.
You can already see the restaurant / terrace at hole 4 of the round and this is also very nicely situated. The food was good, the service friendly.
CONCLUSION: Beautiful, but not cheap golf course in the south of Munich. You can, but you don't necessarily have to have played it. It would be too expensive for me for the full GF.

Opened in 1964, the course was redesigned by Perry Dye in 2006. Bernhard von Limburger drew the first plans for the 18-hole course, Kurt Rossknecht planned the third nine.
We have already played a number of courses designed by the Dye family - in Austria, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the USA. They all have something in common, they are mostly difficult to play and usually appear in the top boxes.
The oldest golf club in Bavaria now has a top course, it took a while for that to happen. Even until they found their current home, they were forced to move several times.
It is in the top 10 in our Munich list (50 km radius) - it doesn't make it into the top 5.
It is a very spacious, spacious and beautiful facility, today we played courses C and B. Since we know a number of places - especially in the USA - this is almost a little tame for a dye course.
Very moderate terrain transitions that are easy to master on foot, ensure variety and beautiful views with the layout.
We liked the long par 3 - back tees -, six of the par 4 are strong with more than 400 meters. The par 5, on the other hand, are almost a little good.
We experienced a premiere today, nobody in the flight hit a bunker, but everyone ended up in the water. Many greens are not defended as hard as we know from other dye courses.
Very well maintained facility with the best greens that we have played on this Starnberg-See-Golf-Trip - we have visited seven places - excellent rating. Many greens look so harmless - they are rather flat - but they are not. They have very fine breaks, tricky to play. Ultimately, they also ruined our scores. The birdie book, which does not provide any precise information on the greens with regard to pin positions and inclinations, was also partly responsible.
We still belong to the faction that plays without electronic aids. We may have to change it up because more and more clubs are doing without the birdie book.
Great clubhouse, very nice staff, including the members.
Not all have five stars - but it's enough - the C course is not quite at the level of the A and B courses, according to our leader.

Today I played for the first time at the Munich Golf Club Strasslach and I have to say I believe there is no better maintained golf course in Bavaria, if not even Germany. We played the C and B course with Cart and everything was just right.
Starting with the very nice reception, the cart with very comfortable seats and rackets and ball washer on the cart!

I played the course of the Munich golf club in Straßlach early in the morning on a wonderful summer day. On the Front Nine, I was the first on the greens.
The condition was very good on tees, fairways and greens. Also the descriptions of the tracks on the tees and the signs to the next tees - with the exception of the 8 to the 9th. That was not immediately recognizable.
Overall, I liked the Front Nine (A course) better than the Back Nine (B course). It was a bit too "hilly" there for me and I didn't like the blind strokes that are inevitable there due to the landscape.
It was a little confusing that on the Front Nine from 7 onwards a lady suddenly sat "behind my neck" who had never been seen before (probably a career changer). At the tee of the 9 (or: 1 of the B-course) I met two flights that tee off in front of me and the lady from behind joined them. A little unhappy...

The welcome friendly professional, the good driving range only after a long walk to reach, the clubhouse nicely located and with friendly service, the (small) pro shop is a bit strange in the neighboring Green-Keeping building.
The courses A and B are certainly among the best golf courses in Germany, the fairways exceptionally well maintained, the greens of course, fast and consistent. The whole plant with the tree population is really beautiful and the layout leads to challenges in the game.
The - newly created - place C does not (yet) meet this high quality standard. The fairways are rather wiesenartig and the greens rather slow and "bumpy". Hopefully that will get better over the years.

The Munich Golf Club Strasslach in Hailafing is elitist - less from golfi exclusivity because of tradition. He is extremely personable, exudes calm and serenity - and it's just close pleasant to be here.
