Fantastic parkland / woodland course with very friendly atmosphere

From the first moment we arrived at the Gower Golf Club we were given an extremly friendly welcome by the pro and her staff and this set up an excellent day. Standing on the first tee we had fantastic views over the estruary and to the mountains in the distance. The first seven holes of the Donald Steel designed course play over a more traditional parkland type landscape with sloping fairways and fantastic views of the area. From the 8th to 11th the course has a more woodland feel. The 8th is a great par 5 needing a long drive to enable any chance of going for the green which is guarded by water at the front and right side. The back nine starts with a par 5 at the bottom of the valley and you need to plot your way to the hole around numerous water hazards. After the par 3 11th the course turns back to a more parkland feel and slowly meanders up the valley to climax at the 18th which overlooks the vally below. This course was given a joint 10th place in the best courses of South Wales in a recent magazine article i read in the National Club Golfer. The course has USPGA greens which played excellently the day we played. After a relaxing drink on the terrace we chatted with the pro and it is nice to see a club who is keen on the development of children, beginners and families. They have accommodation there and also run tuition holidays for individuals and groups. A fantastic day and we will definately go back soon.

Between park and forest

A very pretty hilly Course! Total Investment in good condition despite 2 days continuous rain. Only the Pro Shop is poor but very friendly!
