Tasteful island place

We played the yellow course. Somewhat boring tracks, beautiful greens, but also very dry for this time of year.
Unfortunately, there is no marshal driving across the course to give older golfers some tips on how to behave on a golf course, e.g. not driving a golf cart onto the foregreen and into the high grass, not looking for balls for minutes, etc. etc..
But the absolute hammer is the following flight of 4, we ran up from the third hole, not to let play through.
Everything was backed up, at the end there were 3 lanes free before this really extremely painless 4-way flight.
We all just shook our heads when we commented on the HCPs given for this flight on the screen at lane 1.
Nevertheless, thanks to the wonderful weather, it was a beautiful day of vacation.

In very good condition again in 2023

At the end of April we were again at Lake Balmer for a few days and were more than satisfied with the condition of the place. And THAT at the beginning of the season.

The blue course was in top condition. Great fairways, fast greens, very decent bunkers (as far as the sand is concerned).

The fact that the latter are sometimes found unraked is obviously due to the fact that the majority of golfers are too lazy. They are simply too lazy to walk 10 meters to the nearest rake and then leave the bunker as tidy as they found it or wish to find it.
But that has apparently crept in since Corona (and the associated rake ban). One can only appeal to the goflers to slowly pull themselves together again.

The yellow course was also in good condition. The greens just a little slower.

In any case, the greenkeepers do a very good job and are constantly busy on the course.

Even the red course (9 holes with par 3 and par 4 lanes), which is accessible to everyone and is also suitable for a short warm-up or final round, was not objectionable.

Balls don't get lost at this time of year either as the rough is still mown and you can basically find any ball unless it lands in one of the few water hazards.

If only it weren't for the nasty wind. We had icy and very strong winds that day, which spoiled the joy of playing a little.
But this is more because of the lousy temperatures despite the sunshine. But golf is an outdoor sport.

Conclusion:
In 2023, golfers can once again expect a great course with 27 holes and friendly service at the golf reception.

New eye-catcher and landmark at tee 1 of blue and yellow.
A nice big (approx. 2.5 meter diameter) golf ball with the Balmer See logo on it. It invites you to take beautiful souvenir photos.

Great places and wonderful hotel

We were at the end of July 2022 for 4 days / 3 laps at Lake Balmer (also in the hotel) and played the blue course twice and the yellow course once. The weather was almost ideal, sunny with a wonderfully fresh breeze from the Baltic Sea, not even a number of lost (because warped) balls could spoil the golf days. Both courses start directly at the hotel, during the week the friendly ranger welcomes you at the first tee.
The blue course is certainly the more challenging course of the two, it is also a good 360m longer. The first 9 are only Par3 and Par4 tracks, the second 9 have 3 Par5 tracks, which are provided with decent gradients. Overall, this results in a par 71 course (34 & 37), which definitely has its pitfalls. Some tees lead over waves, here it is good to play the high side, the gradients are sometimes steep. The rough is quite dense in some places and balls will never be seen again here, but in other places it is quite thin and you can find almost anything. This also applies to the yellow course, which, as I said, is shorter and seemed to have a little less incline. The yellow course is also a par 71 (35 & 36). Most of the players probably come from the adjoining Hotel Balmer See (which is very nice by the way!) and many take a cart, which seems understandable given the inclines. Of course, elevated tees always offer wonderful views of the backwaters and the amazingly hilly landscape. But you first have to come up (and play) to the higher tees, which is very sporty, especially if you run like we do.
Both sites were in exceptional condition when we visited, which seems surprising given the relative scarcity of water. But there are several own wells that supply enough water to keep the condition high. The tees were well maintained, the greens in very good condition, although not always on course and not too fast. The fairways were also green, and there were hardly any burnt spots (looks extremely different from other golf courses). Overall, this results in an excellent picture of the two places.
I found it amazing how different the holes of the unplayed course suddenly seem when you pass them, both courses "meet" again and again and you think "what kind of hole is that?" until you notice that the other perspective is so misleading. The lanes are very well signposted, the respective color of the tee board shows the course.
All in all, the game on both courses was a lot of fun for us, even if I left a number of balls there (by the way, the balls offered in the small pro shop are extremely expensive!). We never needed more than 4 hours, mostly the three of us were through in 3.5 hours. We never had slow players before us...
After the round, it is advisable to enjoy a drink on the hotel terrace with a wonderful view over the backwaters (which gives the Balmer See its name) and (like us) plan the next visit.
