A place between pines, rhododendrons and heather. No special challenges, also few water hazards. A well-kept course with wavy greens with a lot of breaks, but faithful and fair. You should use the nice clubhouse. Lane 11 is a particularly pretty par 3.

Herkenbosch is really a dream place in May, which welcomes you with rhododendrons in many places on the square.

But what is not possible are the greens. What you find there at the moment has nothing to do with normal greens. The tees in our home club are better maintained than the greens in Herkenbosch.
A reasonably reasonable putting is simply impossible there.
The ball simply hops somewhere uncontrolled.
That takes away more than half the joy of playing.
It was particularly annoying that we were not informed of this at check-in. And that for a green fee of 75 euros.
Strongly advise against playing the course in the next few weeks.

Service in the gastro was very friendly but a bit overwhelmed which led to longer waiting times for orders.

Played on 6/15/2021. The 18-hole course with a 9-hole PAR3 short course is located directly behind the German border, practically opposite the Elmpter Wald golf course on the German side. You drive a little overland from the next motorway. From the border crossing in Wassenberg / Rothenbach (district of Heinsberg) you have to drive about 6km. The complex itself is in absolute peace and nature next to a national park. It is an ingrown real parkland course with many tall trees. It is slightly hilly and goes up and down every now and then (cart not absolutely necessary for people with normal sporty ambitions). However, there are multiple blind beats and corresponding bells must often be played, which make absolute sense. Only on the back nine do a few water hazards come into play. Well-placed bunkers and doglegs round off the varied game. You should stay as straight as possible and on the fairways and play more strategically. High HC should take a few more balls with them on the round. The condition was good, if not outstanding. The tees were almost all very tight and then a bit worn in between. On the mostly good fairways there were bare spots every now and then and some bunker edges looked slightly neglected. All no drama but not perfect and not 5 stars. The game was very busy on a Tuesday afternoon, there were waiting times, as there were also three and four-person flights. Some let play, others not. I noticed that not all members said hello. You should definitely reserve a start time in advance by phone or email. The green fee in the high season of currently € 70 on weekdays and € 80 on weekends is, in my opinion, € 10 too high. But there is a sundowner tariff. The lady in the secretariat was busy and friendly and explained the way to the first tee when I asked. There is a driving range where you can unfortunately only tee off from mats. From 1 € you can draw balls from the machine. The clubhouse is basically in order and functional, but partly getting a bit old. The restaurant terrace is nicely laid out and was well attended. Parkland lovers will get their money's worth here, but there are at least comparably good and cheaper facilities nearby.
