Golf Club Wildeshauser Geest e.V.

Spasche 5, D-27793 Wildeshausen, Germany

Characteristics

The mostly broad fairways, surrounded by typical heath, also offer beginners the chance for good results. Good players have the opportunity to prove their longhitter skills with long tee-offs from the forest aisles. The course is playable all throughout the year because of the so called "Geestboden" (sandy heathland at the coasts of Germany) and an overhead sprinkling system.

Golf gem on the A1

The beautiful 9-hole course was optimized in many areas in 2022. In June 2023 we found an excellently maintained facility. One senses immediately that the members are committed with a lot of heart and soul. Hard to beat in terms of friendliness: the marshal welcomed us as guests at lane 1 (secretariat was closed) and invited us to sit at the table with members after the round.

The timeless design is reminiscent of the "golden golf course design age", i.e. courses by Harry S. Colt or Bernhard von Limburger. Tees from forest aisles onto fairways that open up and initially seem quite wide. Wavy fairways, elevated greens and cleverly placed bunkers characterize the challenge of the course. Away from the fairways in the forest you have a pretty good chance of finding balls and chipping them back. The annoying search in the rough is completely eliminated here. On hot days there is enough soothing shade.

The clubhouse with gastro (very friendly gastro chef) in Sweden house style reinforce the hospitable and down-to-earth atmosphere.

For the rest, the permanent background noise of the A1 and federal highway didn't bother us, since it was more of a continuous sound carpet.

Absolute must-play

9-hole parkland on the highway

Played on 10/25/2016. The mostly flat 9-hole course (PAR 36) with driving range is located right between the A1 motorway and a main road. Unfortunately, with the corresponding noise. Otherwise, it is a mature classic parkland course in the countryside with high trees. On the 8th track are even a couple of tall trees in the middle of the fairway. Intermediate web 1 and 4 there is a larger water hazard, otherwise some bunkers and one to two doglegs. Other highlights I could not make out so well. The reductions of men are repeatedly little tight out of the forest, but then open. Higher HC should still also get along when they leave the Driver times in his pocket. The condition was broadly OK, although some fairways bald spots or areas re obviously had bodies. The greens were good and loyal. Overall a rather damp and heavy soil, at least during my visit because the tall trees do not let the sun through. In the clubhouse you can change clothes, eat something and be green fee at Secretariat closed (only the hour occupied) payable on GF-mailbox. As a guest you gets along reasonably well, since everything is signposted and the tracks are equipped with tee panels. The green fee is reasonable (no surcharge for hologram-free guest / Thank you !!!) and was reduced slightly in the current and announced rebuilding of the pond. The members I met greeted friendly and as single player I was quickly passed when I ran aground. It is safe to play not a must here, but who is near or in transit, the is the 9-hole round recommended.

Beautiful natural campsite!

Have at 05:10:15 passing through 9 holes with my wife played and can fully confirm the previous review - but only 4 stars because of very loud highway noise.
Of the Lord discounts not easy to play, as you play each of a forest clearing out.
But who is near, you should definitely play here.
Uncomplicated clubhouse / Dining, relaxed atmosphere.
