Dream golf on the Lower Rhine

Played on June 30th, 2020. The flat 18-hole golf course with an attached 6-hole short course is located on the Lower Rhine between the municipalities of Emmerich and Bocholt, near the Dutch border near the A3. The golf course is right next to the namesake, the Anholt moated castle, which is definitely worth a visit. The “Anholter Switzerland” biotope wildlife park right next to the square also borders the square. On lanes 2 and 3 you practically play past the game enclosure and also see the animals. The entire complex exudes a lot of peace and nature, only on the first train you can hear some street noise. The ingrown parkland course with lots of water and trees is an absolute feast for the eyes that you can rarely see in Germany. Everything is very well maintained and the greens and fairways were absolutely flawless, sometimes like carpets. The drought of the past few weeks seems to have passed the place without traces. The ponds are beautifully integrated, some with rushes and water lilies. Despite the sometimes very massive and tall trees, most tees are open and so high HC with strategic play should get by well. A certain ball supply should still be available. For example, the peninsula green at 7 (PAR 3) is already a challenge. Streams or ponds and doglegs come into play again and again. Sometimes there are also mighty trees or a weather shelter (lane 10) in the middle of the fairway. There are a few historical remains (water pump, agricultural equipment) on one or the other tee. Again and again we stood on the fairways and said how nice it is here. The office, the pro shop and the restaurant are located in two different buildings. From the parking lot you first pass a building where the secretariat is located. The staff are very friendly and even gave me a rental trolley for free. You also have to reserve start times due to the corona. The best way to do this is by phone. As a guest, you can view bookings via the homepage, but you cannot book without registration. We got a start time for lunch on a Tuesday morning and were able to play for two without stress and without waiting. The green fee on weekdays of € 65 is absolutely appropriate. At the weekend it gets a little more expensive at € 85. Unfortunately, a surcharge that does not promote golf is also taken here if you do not have an “r” in your ID. Passing the caddy boxes over a small bridge that crosses the Issel river, you then reach the pro shop (which is not always open) and the restaurant in a more recent building. The first tee and the 18th green are located directly in front of the restaurant terrace. The 9th green and the 10th tee are a little out of sight. We ate in the restaurant after the round and were very satisfied despite the manageable menu. The service was absolutely friendly and quick. I can absolutely and unreservedly recommend a round in the club. Compared to Augusta, Falkenstein, Lärchenhof and Co., 5 stars are of course a lot, but I think the place comes very close for Germany!

Top condition anytime again!

We played the course on May 4th, place was in top condition! Fairways such as carpeting and greens super maintained and d to play evenly. The place is not easy, several doglegs you should play a 2nd time to know the right ball position at the tee.

Great team at the front desk and in the restaurant, all around a perfect day for us!
