Nice, solid place, currently under renovation

Played on September 18th, 2023, only 15 holes due to renovations. The flat 18-hole course (PAR 72) with an additional 9-hole short course (PAR 27) and driving range is located east of Wenningstedt, south of Kampen and above the airport next to a school. The signage from the main road to the golf club is rather poor. The course isn't boring, but to be honest it doesn't have any special highlights. It is by no means a links course, but the essential elements are missing. From lane 4 you can at least see the Wadden Sea. There are a few water hazards, including those that you have to play over when hitting the beautiful double green on the 9th and 18th in front of the clubhouse. Some well-placed bunkers should be removed from the game. Lane 1 starts with a dogleg. The rough is a little denser in one place or another, but most of the tees are very open. You can view the course of the course using the existing visual tee boards. The view of the lighthouse is nice from some of the cable cars. The condition of the playable tracks was generally okay. A few brown spots on the fairways and where the drainage was laid were a bit unkempt. Here and there the moles are up to mischief. The greens were in top order and true, but not particularly fast. The tee shots were fine and the bunkers were well prepared. The clubhouse with restaurant (not in use and closed on Mondays) looks very good inside and out and is probably the most beautiful thing on Sylt. You pay your green fee to the very nice starter at the building next to the driving range and pro shop right at the window in front of the first tee. The lady had a sense of humor and was in a good mood. On a dry early Monday morning shortly after 8 a.m., I was able to start playing as a single player straight away and didn't have to pay until after the round. Due to the current renovation work on the course, which will probably last until April 2024, I was initially only able to play holes 1 to 9 and then holes 11 to 15. The 9-hole green fee is currently €50, for 18 holes the green fee before the renovation was almost cheap for Sylt at €80. Let's see what the round costs after the conversion. It's not nice if you bought the golf hopping ticket for 3 full rounds on the corresponding courses for €229 and then you can "only" play 11 or 15 holes at the Sylt Golf Club. Unfortunately, I wasn't told this when I bought the card in Budersand. However, the current circumstances are clearly pointed out on the GC Sylt homepage. You can also book your start times online here. By the way, there is a good pro shop in GC Sylt. Of the four golf clubs on Sylt, the GC Sylt is the least spectacular. Therefore it is only enough for a good 3 stars. Maybe it will be better after the renovation. This remains to be seen.

Most beautiful place on Sylt?

What, most beautiful place on Sylt? matter of opinion. But in my opinion you should buy the golf hopping card (unfortunately they are only available for 3 courses, not for the GC Morsum), because all courses are very different.
The GC Sylt has a very nice clubhouse, but I was a bit disappointed with the layout of the course, I didn't find the lanes very varied, but I played in the rain, maybe everything looks much better in the sun.
I liked the layout of the neighboring course (Marine Golf GC) better, I particularly liked the pot bunkers, especially since there are few courses with pot bunkers in Germany. So you can learn well here. The service was good in both clubs.
Yesterday I wrote about the GC Budersand, there is nothing wrong with the place there. And he also has pot bunkers. In my opinion, the service should be improved.
I enjoyed the GC Morsum. Unfortunately, the clubhouse there was already closed (October), but the place is a stunner. You walk to the sea (I only say fantastic) and back from the sea. It would be nice if this club could decide to take part in the golf hopping package.

Most beautiful place on Sylt

Fairways and greens are well maintained and playable, and the facility itself is in good condition. For the ambitious amateur golfer, a beautiful course on which controlled golfing is very possible. Proshop well stocked, sanitary facilities and showers very neat and clean.
In my opinion the best place on Sylt before Morsum and Budersand far behind. Green fee prices, however, a little too generous.
Nice outside terrace, but poor quality as far as the food is concerned, probably convenience products.
We'd love to come back, but we'll eat elsewhere.

Pretty neat and pretty expensive

Played in early October 2020, handicap 12

The “Heath-Land-Style” (heather landscape) course is a relatively flat meadow on which larger bushes, smaller forests and a few dunes cleverly separate the lanes from each other and pleasantly loosen up the look. The beautiful thatched clubhouse and the nearby lighthouse, clearly visible from many lanes, are great eye-catchers! At first you play two to three lanes with a "side sea view".

Apart from a few tees where a certain length (140m carry of YELLOW over a water hazard) is required, the course does not offer any great challenges. The length (5,733m from YELLOW) is manageable - only in strong winds (shouldn't be rare here) you have to reach out with somewhat longer clubs than usual and be careful not to hit any of the bunkers. Water hazards rarely come into play - however, a bit of tactics are sometimes required (you should stay a little short instead of using force to beat the pool).

The greens are, like the rest of the course (except the bunkers), well-maintained, reasonably fast and moderately undulating. Not overly challenging, but not too boring either. Unfortunately, many bunkers were "flooded" due to the rain on the days and the night before - there was so much water in them that it was difficult to find a place in the obstacle to drop. It's a shame - I would have expected that in an area with quite frequent “water from above” the bunkers would be equipped with better drainage - but maybe that's not technically possible (?).

Also unfortunate: especially on the first few lanes, the constant car traffic on the nearby main road disturbs the peace. Every now and then you can hear the planes (the airfield is right next door) - but the flight density is quite low.

The service is very courteous - here, too, it was initially offered to only pay for 9 holes and to pay the difference after the round if you did 18 holes. Perhaps this is appropriate as rain showers are likely to occur more often, which then cause many players to abandon the round, but it is by no means common everywhere!

Due to the rain on the previous days, the use of carts was NOT permitted. However, the course is really flat enough to get around without going round - the distances between the individual tracks are also quite short.

Unfortunately - like most places (and many other places on this island) - not exactly cheap. 75, - in the off-season is simply too much for what is offered, the fee for an eTrolley of 25, - is a real cheek. Pull trolley with 8, - not exactly a bargain either.

Conclusion: Solid 3 stars, the lavish price, the lack of challenges and the watery bunkers stand in the way even more. (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 6 out of 10 points.)

NB - My personal ranking of the four Sylt places:
Clear leadership for “Budersand” - the other three places are very close together in the evaluation. "GC Sylt" in 2nd place, due to the slightly more pleasant landscape just before the "Marine" course - slightly behind due to the less varied "Morsum" courses).
Recommendation: If you are ever on the island - "take" all four seats. If you happen to be not there - go there because of “Budersand”!

Well maintained open country - inland course.
Unspectacular and even!
Beautiful lighthouse view and very good food with super nice service in the most beautiful clubhouse on the island!
If you are golfing on Sylt, you can play the GC Sylt at any time.

Nice morning - not on the beach

What my predecessors have said everything, I also stated.
Beautiful, well-kept place - but without highlights.
How should you conjure up miracles in the course setting?
I felt very well. Very nice exercise facilities.
But if the bushes are on one lane left and on the next right --- then becomes monotonous.
Price ambitious, but normal for Sylt.

Only number three on the island

After a very friendly reception then a little disappointment. Only a few interesting holes (1,9,10,18) a lot of monotonous back and forth, good greens and often the striking view of the lighthouse.
Green fee with 80 € weekdays quite sporty, but to Sylt suitable.
For me on the island only the number 3 behind Budersand and Morsum.

4th place, ambience 5 stars...

After two laps in the summer of 2017, the system is in good memory. The tracks are well-groomed and appealing and promise a relaxed round with a good score, since relatively few dangers lurk. That suits a day on Sylt and decelerates immensely, at the latest when the view once again sweeps towards the horizon. The clubhouse with its beautiful terrace completes the picture and invites you to a relaxing sundowner. I will gladly come again!

Great nineteenth hole

Again, is the place the end of December in a great condition. Everything looks tidy and well maintained. Even in bad weather. It's just a pleasure to play here.
The Club Restaurant "Steffens" must be particularly emphasized. Friendly competent team, down to earth and high-quality cuisine. The chef realize his joy in the profession. The value for money is to a large extent, which is not always the case, unfortunately, Sylt. "Steffens is also for non-golfers always an attractive target.

Discerning place and good service

I just played a 9 hole round on 25 May. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The course (tees, fairways, greens) was very well maintained. By bunkers and water hazards the game of golf is varied. I would stay here again.

Great Winter Place

On November 16, we have used the 4 sun hours of the day and experienced a wonderful day of golf for this season. Contact in the secretariat was short but very friendly, the surprise over the 20 € per person for the start time after 13:00 clock large: the club is trying to green fee players!

The course was presented in great shape, fairways and greens were very well maintained. Despite the clear Aerifizierungsspuren the greens were relatively fast and stable track.

The system certainly offers no athletic challenge us (HCP 20 and 25) played but very entertaining. The greens are well defended by bunkers but fair and the few interesting water hazards certainly came into play. The temporary views of the Wadden Sea and the proximity to the imposing lighthouse "Christian" compensated for the temporary accompanying road noise.

In the coming sun rays we like to come back...

Boring and too expensive!

Except for lanes 9 and 18 no Herausforderlungen. The rest is boring strung together - often much too narrow. Well maintained greens, ok, but just way too flat. Bunker state catastrophic - there was no sand but concrete - and this on an island with a whole lot of sand.
In summary, between the first and last track - for each 9 holes - is boredom and everything else as a sporting challenge-And for € 80!

Even in winter, best space

Have played the space between Christmas and New Year. The course is presented in a very good condition for the season. Fairways maintained, the greens also. The total planting was apparently subjected to a very professional winter pruning, everything looks tidy. Kudos to the Green Keeper. It is striking that many divots not replaced and hardly pitch marks be repaired. There are probably many golfers on the go, which the state of the place does not matter. Nevertheless, it is a great pleasure to play in this year round. Also kudos to the restaurant. Very friendly service, great food and still a very good price-performance ratio.

Relaxed game on well place

The Golf Club Sylt is not one of the very hard to gambling sites, but that's what makes along with the sophisticated ambience of the tracks and the must-see view of the Wadden on tracks 3 and 4, the Reitz for a relaxing round of golf from. Small flaw, but that does not detract from the overall impression: the first 9 tracks are perhaps a little close together, so that the ball can easily fly to a neighboring Fair Way times. Furthermore, the excellent cuisine of the Club restaurants, the beautiful restaurant terrace with panoramic views of the square and the charmingly humorous Mr. Erkelenz starter home in absolutely worth mentioning. A round of golf on this course is always a great pleasure that you should not miss out on Sylt.
