Characteristics

This course is not only among the oldest in Germany, but also has nine of the most interesting holes. This is mostly caused by the for the greater part historic, protected stock of trees, which makes golfing a true excursion of natural history. Time and time again you have to play around resp. over single trees or whole groups of trees.

Solid 9 lanes on rather narrow terrain

Played on 5/26/2023. The 9-hole course (PAR 35) is located in a scenic area a few kilometers away from the nearest motorway (A49) in the south of the North Hessian spa town of Bad Wildungen. You first drive through the town, then through a residential area and behind a few new buildings is the golf club with a restaurant (not used) at the end of the street. The club office/secretariat is hidden behind the clubhouse in the basement, directly at the tee of the 7th hole. There is a small changing room in the clubhouse. You have to know a little bit or search/ask someone. Even tee 1 cannot be found at first glance, despite a sign on the street. You have to walk a few meters up the gravel road to get there. The first recognizable tee behind / next to the parking lot is not the 1 but lane 5. The place is slightly hilly but to create without a cart. It's always a bit up and down. Lanes 1 through 4 are across the street from the clubhouse/restaurant. On the green of lane 3/tee 4 you have a beautiful view of Bad Wildungen. There is a lot of forest around the golf course. The fairways are wide enough that the out of bounds should not come into play. Slicers are threatened with the driving range on lane 6, or you can see the chance of getting range balls from the range balls on lane 6. The highlight is certainly lane 7 (PAR3) from an elevated tee over or past a pond onto the green. On hole 8 you have to give priority to those teeing off on hole 7. So sometimes there is little space for a golf course and an expansion to 18 holes is not possible. But if you want to play 18 holes, there are two tee options on the existing 9 tees. There are also a few bunkers and another water hazard on lane 6. Generally pleasing and solid 9 lanes. The overall condition was very good. The standard green fee of €30 on weekdays and €40 on weekends for 9 holes is fine. However, according to the homepage, VCG players and players without a hologram should pay an unspecified surcharge, which is incomprehensible. On the homepage it is pointed out that you should book tee times. Unfortunately, this is not possible online. However, during my game on a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon, the gameplay was rather manageable. I was able to start playing as a single player without registering and didn't play too much. A small problem was that the secretariat was not manned at the best time on Friday afternoon. But thanks to a green fee mailbox, the problem could be solved. If you are nearby and want to see the pretty spa town of Bad Wildungen anyway, you are not wrong here. Extra going there is to be considered due to the location. Actually 4 stars is a bit too much, but 3 would not be enough.

Space is fun

Very nice place which was a challenge for me as a "lowland player". Hilly and not too wide fairways.
Have played four times in a week. The lady in the office was very nice. Noteworthy also the informative app of the golf club.

Okay, but...

Imagine that you visit a golf course on sundays in August at 14 o'clock and find the secretariat closed. In Bad Wildungen unfortunately a reality. Well, you can still play, but the closed Pro-shop is annoying, if you wanted to buy something there.

Otherwise currently (late summer 2018) the best place condition in northern Hesse. The tracks are not spectacular, but playable relaxed. Men's tee 7 right next to the terrace of the gastronomy an absolute no-go: way too loud.
