Rodovia Governador Mario Covas, km 508 - Frade, 23903-000 Angra dos Reis, Brazil

Characteristics

The first Brazilian resort golf course was designed by two British experts: Peter Allis, winner of the Brazil Open in 1961, and Dave Thomas. The 18 holes are totally surrounded by Atlantic rain-forest. In 2007, the course was completely reconstructed under the supervision of Brazilian professional Rafael Navarro.

Totally new greens were added to 6 holes, while the other 12 were restored. The 11th hole, for instance, has got a new tee box which is now on the top of a 45 meter high hill that offers an amazing view of the course and the sea around Angra dos Reis. Another hole you cannot miss is the 8th, an uphill 148 yard par 3, since the player´s ball must carry the ruins of a 19th century aqueduct – it is extremely beautiful, but you must be careful otherwise your ball may get stymied behind one of the old pillars.

Frade golf course lies on a 17 million square meter estate which includes protected Atlantic rain-forest, the golf course, 161 apartments, 16 bungalows, 8 restaurants and 3 bars, a private beach, a swimming pool, a spa, tennis courts, movie theaters, shops, waterfalls and whatever else golf players and their families’ idea of fun might include.

Very good experience

My wife and I visited Frade for a long holiday weekend. We stayed at the Fradissimo Hotel. The amenities were adequate, and the food and Bar were great. We played golf 2 days there, and did not have any complaints. The course was in good shape, and everyone who helped us, were both friendly and professional!
We liked it so much, we are going back in a few weeks to stay-and-play again!
Very hilly/mountainous terrain for most of the course, so I would recommend renting a golf cart or bringing your own push/pull cart.

Beautiful scenery

I play this course regulary since 2015. The course offers variety of landscapes, I would say difficult course where you need some extra balls with you. Some greens are not in a good condition, but the fairways are nice. Beginning and end of course is 200 mts from the beach, the rest of course goes up and down hill in Rain forest with many rivers and lakes. Always you share the course with animals like cabyvara, deers,... There is a new club house since January 2017. Possible to rent cart, clubs or hire caddy. Always recommended to book these extra services in advance.

Originating Golf

We played with our group (10 persons) on the 18 holes all alone. We had pre-booked all rental clubs. Ladies sentences despite order did not exist. The sentences were all steel shafts, all mixed brands in each bag colorful and much older date.
The course beautiful landscaping, the condition of the fairways originally, the greens catastrophic.
Only the manager could speak English, the clubhouse is more like a slightly larger snack shack.
This place is not one of the places that you must have played.
