The best of both worlds

Depending on what you want from a golfing holiday, the two courses at Donnafugata provide you with all you could wish for. the two courses differ yet compliment to make a trip here more than worthwhile. Starting with the friendly staff who try as hard to accomodate you as any course I have ever played till the moment you finish this is a great golfing holiday destination.
The Links although not traditonal in the Scotish sense does provide a thrilling rollercoast round and 18 holes of stunning demanding golf which will test the entire bag. Starting with the opening par five with water down the left and a dare you go over for the quick route to the green or play around to stay dry. To the 8th from the elevated tee to the narrow landing area then the pitch to an island green. The 14 th the short route land between two lakes or the long way round again risk reward plays a big part to the nature of this golf course. Hole after hole set up like this the bunkering is many but not deep the greens are fast and the wind can blow so perhpas not classic links but certainly a terrific course to play a round of golf on.
The Parkland is a contrast but when played in combination a total delight. Mr Player again melds history, culture and countryside into a fantastic layout no poor holes is not an understatement. One of the most picturesque course I have played and one of the most natural at home feeling golf courses I have ever been on. From the very first hole this course slowly reveals itself and as you head down to the 5th the sight of the stunning derelict Sicilian Villa you know you are playing somewhere special. Playing down lush fairways bordered by bermuda grass through olive groves to large manicured greens this is a stunning place to be hitting a golf ball. in what is a collection of great holes hard to pick one my personal favourites are from 11 through to 15 these are senic, beautiful great golf holes, and as you drive down 18 with its big sweeping dog leg water on the left bunkers and trees right, to a protected green you will reflect it does not get much better than this. This is what golf is all about the game the course the sense of something special. Enjoy

My wife and I spent 8 days (May 2013) at the resort.
Hotel:
Well-thought out, interesting architectural details, but not always practical. (Wired and wifi access are not customer friendly) Food: The staff is überforderdet the breakfast service. Hole 19 is quite expensive for a nice beer (7 euros).
Links course:
Strong wind - especially between 12:00 to 15:00 - make some holes to real touchstones. No toilet in the Course (a disgrace to the female gender, especially as a walker) parkland course:
Fair, relatively simple but not uninteresting place. Many beginners sometimes spoil the mood.
Ranger / supervision: have not seen a single match days at 6. (Had to 2x a recalcitrant 'Turnierchen' afterwards torment).

36-hole oasis of calm
Reviewed April 8, 2013
We have this resort the end of March for 2 nights visited 2013 (Easter) and recorded both 18-hole courses (parkland and links) on a beautiful spring weather.
Resort was fully booked because of the Easter holidays and the golf courses also consistently well attended. Each course costs for hotel guests € 60 (instead of € 150) and that's more than fair.
Both courses are consistently challenging - but can also be quite mastered by players with higher handicaps with friends. The parkland course designed by Gary Player is bordered by olive trees and partially evil rough. Who ends up in the rough can say goodbye now and again from his ball. The ball drops down so far that you can find it any more. It can also lead to some warmer, partly also because wind.
Me personally the links course by Franco Piras has liked better, even if the only place a links course is actually modeled on the width and vegetation here, because the sea is something far away - you can see it just once at hole 12 and 13 on the horizon.
On the Links course the wind is based on the open range naturally into full play. This should be the game plan. Beautifully landscaped and also ausgefuxte holes.
The condition of the greens and bunkers could be better at both places.
The sand in the bunkers is rock-hard and therefore mostly unplayable.
There are no discounts on the tee signs for orientation, that you hit every now and then at random from and advises the course of the path. This can be quite annoying - especially if you can not see through tops.
The practice facility has not overwhelmed me now. Kept rather small and range balls are also not included in the green fee (not even for hotel guests).
Secretariat and caddy master very accommodating. Free water bottles (2 per player) for the round are standard here. Bags are stored overnight and cleaned after each round bat.
Also the club house with its terrace overlooking the parkland including 9 hole (and partly in the hole 18) invites you to relax, sunbathe and enjoyable decay of the round. Even quite moderate prices.
We will come back, because here you can relax and unwind.

1x dream place & 1x Average Place

We were in November 2012 - with some glorious weather - here. The (physically strenuous) LEFT is fantastically beautiful, one of the most beautiful places with very interesting holes. The PARKLAND is more in charge inside (with extremely many pesky flies - so do not forget bug spray!). In the treacherous grass is found already one or the other ball in the rough or semi-rough not because they disappear in it. Therefore, one should stick to the fairly wide fairway. :-). Why only 3 stars: Unfortunately, the bunkers are extremely poorly maintained, as far too hard and therefore actually unplayable.

Very beautiful facility, attentive staff, very good breakfast. Eating problematic and expensive. Not easy to find food in the area.
Sauna, spa, indoor pool Paying (!), Closed swimming pool outside.
Golf:
General: tees and fairway good, bad greens, unkempt, partly soiled by feces, so badly playable bunker / sand hard as concrete, paths of crushed stone / gravel unkempt, no deduction table, no Birdie book summary on score card only read with a magnifying glass.
Parkland Course: Plant a total of boring, but for golfers fairly uninteresting.
Link Exchange: better condition worse greens, plant visually very well done, very fair for golfers, interesting.
Caddy master services very well.

Fantastic location & links course

June 2011
A fantastic hotel with 2 very beautiful 18-hole golf courses. In the center of the complex is the hotel complex, a combination of restored buildings of the 19th th century and new buildings is that were externally adapted to the style of the old building. The rooms are very nice, modern and tastefully decorated. Equipment and service both in the hotel, as absolutely the best on the golf course. Only criticism is the pricing of the food and the drinks. So all `Arrabiata and 6.00 EUR 18.00 EUR for example, have a plate of penne for a beer (0,4 l) are definitely too much. We have therefore also booked only breakfast and evening set ourselves into the car and went to eat in the area. At stations in the Castello Donnafugata only 5 km away or in the beautiful old town of Ragusa (15 km) is the "world is in order." Here you will find even Italy, as we know from the old movies. Almost kitschy beautiful ambience and price as 25 years ago (Dolce Casa alla 1.00 euros or 3.00 euros for a pizza Margeritha).
When staying at the hotel you should definitely plan a day trip to the Syracuse about 130 km away. The city was, as Ragusa also declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
For golfers of links course is the absolute highlight of the system. It is designed so that there are golfers with all handicaps class a absolute challenge.
For example, there is a par 4 hole with a large pond in the middle of the fairway. This is so placed that one can either submit to about 170 meters to the tee, with approximately 200-220 meters long tee shot because the ball can pass play left or right or even with a 250-meter (Carry) shock can cross the pond on a direct line and so then only requires a short / mid irons supervisor green.
Apart from the different, dependent on the particular skill level game strategies, of course, the wind always plays a crucial role in this space. This is a day around lunch time and towards the afternoon getting stronger.

Donnafugata 5-star Golf & Spa Resort Sicily - A name that committed to aesthetics and taste
Reviewed May 16, 2011
The two golf courses "Parkland", designed by South African legend Gary Player and Player "Links Course", designed by the Italian Franco Piras are applied within walking distance around the hotel.
The 18-hole parkland Cours par 72 with 6,666 yards through natural ways with old olive trees on the edge and tells of the past Sicily. For example, at hole 6, which can visit a Greek necropolis (burial site of a 6th century BC). The final two holes 9 and 18 allow the golfer to the hotel over a ditch and artificial lakes down to the Green downplay. A real treat - even for the audience out of the hotel, some of which make bets if the balls land in the bunker in the trenches, in the water or on the green. All superbly manicured fairways are wide and the greens are fast but fair defended by numerous bunkers. Hawks, ducks, rabbits and geckos are out of the typical Sicilian birds seen on the courts.
The first 9 holes are when there is no wind, easy to deal with. If you start in the morning are more difficult to play, because at noon the wind usually blows efficient and can land the balls in the bunkers, the second 9 holes. Who has a rangefinder at hand, is a clear advantage, through the generous wide-scale landscape deceive the distances being too.
By Little water go golfers who play just barely lost balls. Amateur golfers with any handicap to have fun playing the course.
The entire golf staff offers service through expertise, friendliness and cooperation. Particular highlight was playing the set TaylorMade R11 White. The driving range is within walking distance and easy.
Tip: flies and mosquitoes can be very irritating at certain times of the day here - so mosquito repellent is advisable.
Green Fee May 2011 150 €
The spa area is spacious and extremely aesthetically, all colors are white and putty. Of cosmetics, hairdresser, hammam, pool house and outdoor pool to massage everything is there.
The applications run in 6 rooms of 900m2 SPA Pure wellness area. Anyone who wants to improve his fitness may use specially designed for golfers concepts.

Opening loud Golf Director at 1.7.10, prices are not fixed yet (for hotel guests probably low - otherwise you think of about 100 € for 18 holes, any material( tee mats, baskets, Equipment Pro Shop) was not ordered.
