Nice course

With few nice seaviews. Good maintained. Only what could be better is clubhouse.

Nice course, but needs some maintenance

Played 07/09/2017 starting at 09:40. I gave it four stars because it's got potential, but was probably more 3 stars when we played, due to poor maintenance. Facilities are about as basic as possible, small clubhouse with pro shop and a small bar/cafe. There are toilets at the 9th and 14th, but no other facilities of any kind (other than ball washers). Staff very nice, the pro shop clerk volunteered that the greens were not in good condition and gave us a bit of a discount. Greens were in fact in pretty bad shape, with lots of bald patches and ran pretty slow (where there was grass). Fairways and roughs had been mowed but the cuttings left, leaving large clumps of cut grass to add to the 'interest', particularly in the roughs. Both fairways and greens were soft, so there's very little runout on any shot, and balls landed on the green rarely move more than a foot from where they landed.

The course design is very nice, with lots of variation between holes and some good interesting challenges, without being so difficult that only a single digit handicap player can enjoy (we're 22 & 26 hcp). It's definitely a mountain course, with elevation changes, sloping fairways, and great views.

The ruins from the financial crisis surround the upper elevation holes, with swaths of unfinished condo complexes lining the fairways. Makes things a bit more interesting, in a dark sort of way...

Not a bad choice

If you ignore the absolutely horrible sanitary facilities in the clubhouse and the slightly abrasive buggies, there is actually nothing but praiseworthy. Friendly welcome, moderate green fee, attractive and varied course, not too crowded. The drive to the 12th hole is challenging because you have to drive through a construction site and there is no signage. Place maintenance good. You can play it several times because it's tactically interesting.

Interesting place with buggy only for a good price

Very interesting track layout that goes up and down. You only get the buggy 10 minutes before tee time and I don't want to play the course without it. The condition is average, but the greens are very good and fast. Beautiful views where you would like to take a little break. In the Twilight tariff from 1 p.m., €137 for two people is a very fair price.
There are better (significantly more expensive) courses in the area, but this is a very good "bread and butter" course worth playing. The many package offers (10 card, 20 card, weekly memberships, etc.) bring the price down to under €50 per person per round. With Golfhäftet (Golfamore recently) you can get to know the course from 1 p.m. for around €102 for 2 people and it's really worth it. The staff is extremely friendly.

Golf Dona Julia

Played today, the course and the greens are in good condition, unfortunately the tees are not well maintained. The restaurant is very modest.

Mountain and valley but beautiful panoramic views

A golf course required for a buggy with some very breathtaking pictures.
It is a shame that you can only anticipate some of the locations of the beaten balls (mountainous)! The quality of the places is ok and the friendliness can't be beat.

Nice

I still had 2 hours in the afternoon and that was enough for 10 holes, I watched the rest while driving by with a buggy. The clubhouse is on a busy street overlooking the same, well. The coffee was good. The course is 8 holes uphill quite steeply, you are sent back down by the par 5 that is already described. After the 11 long connecting path past a ruined building on a fairly flat field on which some holes were built quite narrow but without major gradients. Fairways and greens in good condition, which is what you would expect in May. All in all a good average resort place, nothing more and nothing less. The Par4s appear briefly on the scorecard, mostly around 300m, but play differently because of the massive height differences. Signature holes certainly the 8 and the 17, two par 5. A place that you can play well. But nothing more.

Very nice... but

have played the course with the Golfhaftet Card 2-1

Somewhat surprising, you won't find a driving range or a chiping green, the putting green is tiny and mowed to the length of the fairway... starting cold is not really my thing, but it came out a par on hole 1...

Very nice golf course, type mountain goat, me narrow, sometimes very sloping fairways, the first holes go into the mountains, then it goes back. The highlight was a 576 m hole downhill, the flag was visible from the tee and then it only went down...

I found the course very interesting, no hole is like the other... the greens were unfortunately only medium-speed.

Conclusion: Very nice with 2-1, but once a year is enough, Alcaidesa Heath found better...

Golf and great views

The place is in good condition. The greens are a little slower. Difficult to walk as it is very hilly. I recommend a buggy because there is a very long distance between holes 11 and 12. Good price-performance ratio.

Very nice golf course

We recorded this place on the 29.9.19, as every year at this time. It is a very nice, well playable golf course with wide, well maintained and green fairways. The greens are medium fast. Anytime again.

As previously stated

A very nice place. For those who play the course for the first time:
- felt 400m altitude difference on the first 7, only uphill
- very long paths between the tracks and usually quite steep
- Because so hilly caution is called, as many tracks do not see

Who is not very, very athletic, can not do without the cart, otherwise the fun is quickly gone.

Good place - always happy to play!

We played the course several times from November to the beginning of March 2019 because of the price performance ratio we found to be very good.
Dona Julia has varied, interesting fairways and beautiful views at the highest points (same discounts), apart from the fact that the architectural sins of the past are still partially visible.
The condition of the place was not great but okay, the greens very good. The fairways, however, seem to be gradually getting drier because of the constantly stronger sunlight. However, this is a problem that also occurs elsewhere.

Very nice change

Varied round of golf with beautiful views of the sea. The fairways are, despite the dry peridoe, still in order. The greens are in very good condition. The place is relatively hilly. A buggy is definitely recommended. The large ruin is not nice, but what can the golf course for it. We had our fun on New Year's Eve at about 20C. What more do you want:-)

Great course

Great location, despite skeletons. Sea view everywhere. Good greens, great fairs, it's just fun. Driving ranch would be good. Value for money, the best.

Always nice again

Also in 2017, the building ruins are still the only thing negative in this place. The tracks beautifully in the area, high up to the 7th then a feeling 300m drive again down with beat to the sea and the Casares area.
Meanwhile the club house has also been renewed. Unfortunately still no driving range, so warm up before.

Good first unscheibare Alternative

Played on 22/09/2016. The 18-hole course without driving range first meanders 7 tracks high inland. Then it goes back to the coast. Gladly come here in the height of the wind into play. It goes along some not really ready-built resorts. The Wirtschaftskriese Greetings! Between the holes 11 and 12 to drive (Cart because of height differences and long distances between the tees highly recommended) by a part of the unsightly unfinished buildings. Overall, however, one should not interfere with it, because the individual tracks are created very varied and interesting. Partially played from elevated tees spectacular. Precise Drives are beneficial. Chance also like closer, blind and applied around the corner haircuts. Higher HC should be adequately balls with the round. Some water hazards and bunkers coming back into play. Finally, at 18 a specific discount to a seeming island green of the last of five PAR 3 is again required. The condition was not perfect but still okay. The fairways predominantly green, partially renewed lawns and greens in good condition, if a little slow. Unfortunately, many pitch marks, but can the club known manner nothing. Since it is not after nine holes at the clubhouse, there are also traveling toilets. The lady in the pro shop of something temporary aspect clubhouse with adjoining restaurant served us friendly. We had booked the morning on game day for the early afternoon online via the website a start time. For cheap € 51 incl. Cart we could go on the round. The season was quite busy, so it came to waiting times now and then. Overall, a more casual atmosphere and a good alternative to the expensive facilities in the neighborhood and in Sotogrande.

Nice place with some sea view. Care condition is good in spite of the summer. Only disturbing, verscheidene Bauruinen.. The staff and Clubhouse is below average to evaluate. 40, - for a good, cheap round.

Dear Acatenango,

Firstly, many thanks for your interest in us and visit us.
We kindly inform you that the clubhouse is temporally because the one is on hole 12 that is the huge building under construction including a hotel Grand Luxury.
At the moment all the urbanisations are starting to be full sold out and mainly the people who buy them come here and use them for holidays or for investments.
Anyway thanks so much for the 3 stars, so apreciated it.
Looking forwards to meet you again soon,

Kindest Regards on behalf all Doña Julia Golf Staff Team.

Class space, super panoramic

Played on 05/17/2015, we each year on the Costa del Sol, (HCP 18/26) have played Dona Julia for the first time. Surprised by the richness of the diversity of the place. Anything above the clubhouse (definitely only one cube and the main street), the vacant buildings (in the shell are today been only along fairways 2-3) for thought, but simply have its own character on the round. The greens are all very good, the fairways partly a bit dry, all in all, but still very well maintained. Sea view on 50% of all fairways! There comes only Alcaidesa ran. Anyone familiar with the Costa del Sol, can classify the place in the League of Valle Romano, Los Naranjos, flamingos.
Driving Range is missing, so do beforehand warm!

Aesthetics of Ruins

A strange place. In itself, on one of the beautiful corners of the Costa del Golf located (Finca Cortesin is right next door), this place overcomes original, but unfortunately with many unfair slopes and blind blows a valley up and down.

The se beautiful views are thwarted by massive buildings in various states of decay.

The condition was still unacceptable, housed the clubhouse in containers. Overall, you should treat yourself this round at best as "experience of a different kind."

Well-kept state although it has not seen a single green keeper!

Here, you must remember not blinded by the first impression. The club house and around it does not look very inviting, but the place makes up everything. Very interesting fairways. Suitable for all HCP. Partial impressive panoramic views of fairways and the Mediterranean, but unfortunately, as on all golf courses in the region, lined with vacant bungalow and derelict buildings. Still recommended.

Dona Weather

We played the square end of December 2013 twice because we liked it so well. Super well-kept paths and greens. Elaborately designed and interesting. Beautiful views to the sea. Cart strongly recommended because of the long and partially very steep paths.
Price € 99 for 2 players. Sorry, no five stars, because the clubhouse with its container Charm is not really inviting there.

Interesting place

Despite numerous unfinished buildings, the particular line the back nine holes at one or the other fairways, the golf course offers many beautiful views of the hinterland and the nearby sea.

Positive aspect was the good state space, and both on the tees and fairways and on the greens. The fairways are laid out interesting, it mostly without "blind" shots. Sometimes due to long distances between individual lanes should book an electric car.

Who can do without a driving range and a decent club house, the golf course is recommended.

Too bad about beautiful place!

We have today on the 12:10. played this course with the entire family and we are still low! Certainly the tracks are generally very nice, but the trappings is appalling and shows very clearly the real estate debacle on the Costa del Sol. You play completely through nahzu ghost towns or derelict buildings. This is definitely not pretty!
I will only tell not at all about the club house without container toilet seats and strollers decrepit!
Not recommended for a holiday round - it loaded!

Golfing in Marbella

My wife (HCP 23) and I (HCP 26) have played this course in the second half of September 2013. A very interesting golf course. Many fairways are narrow, which makes necessary straight game. Unfortunately, most tracks are along the uninhabited nearly finished houses. Simply focus on the place and not look. The place is in a very good condition and care again the staff is very friendly. The Greenkeeper also pay attention to the game on this operation, which was not the case in Santa Maria Golf Club and occasionally in Los Narranjos. The price / performance ratio is very good. Food is okay, if not also the club house is very welcoming. Buggy necessary

Great design

Have (Handicap 9 and 14) in Septemer played there. The place was in a good state of maintenance. The tracks are great integrated into the landscape, class design, especially when one has reached "the top", entices the eighth fairway (576m!! Yellow of downhill Par5) for "Longest Drive" rating. Three consecutive par 3 (11 to 13), the last one is 195m uphill, detract from the good Gesamteindurck a bit.
The tracks are consistently sophisticated, partially close, but always fair. For high handicap. not really recommended.
Buggy is strongly recommended. The drive along the ruined buildings to the 12th tee is certainly not pretty, the clubhouse also not. But we wanted to play golf and that was class.

Gladly again

During our vacation in May 2013 we have bought a weekly ticket for 2 including Cart at Dona Julia Golf Club and played 6 times. The place was very clean, had really beautiful views of the sea and the mountains. Since we were traveling with the carts, the uphill and downhill of the courses was not a problem. Thanks to the excellent organization of the Tea Time Planner, it was not a problem with stronger operating without urge to play from the next flight. The only downside of the club: The club house unfortunately does not invite you to linger. If you still want to enjoy a drink in a nice atmosphere can indeed go to the club house of the golf club adjacent Casares. Located 2 km are always worthwhile.

Surrounded by unfinished buildings

Have played the course on 22/02/12, the course was totally brown and in a deplorable condition with bone-hard fairways. This condition comes from rain and water shortages and financial constraints. There was nothing going on, even at a price of 41 € incl buggy. Set around the court building ruins are absolutely no eye candy, even though the place has very nice views of the sea.
One can only hope that it goes up again, because the place is overall very interesting.

Increase run in 18 stages

The golf course is conveniently located close to the A7 motorway, which we never hear. Caution in the wind. The first seven holes to go into the valley and almost permanently up. The long tracks are a headwind for much longer. For this you will then be rewarded with two holes and three spectacular sea view. After 11 holes the rest of the space wonderfully follows across the sea in open terrain. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition, although still quite moist, with two days of continuous rain. The fairway has ground then certainly its pitfalls. Bristly grass and muddy ground require high accuracy precision. We were completely alone and only once saw another flight. Clubhouse unspectacular, humble friendliness of the caddy master. Attractively priced. Conclusion: Shortly after the start, and especially after the rise to hole 7 along the typical satellite towns still rather ill-humored, the mood improved noticeably. Finally, we arrived with a satisfied smile at the 18 - and we can easily imagine a come back. Then please without wind...
