Hoping for the best

I read the reports about the dry fairways, etc. But I also note the golf management responses which is good and humble and positive. Therefore I booked for my wife and I for the coming weekend in the hotel, plus spa treatments plus golf. I know all will be fine...

Devonvale is a typical wine estate parkland course but of rather modest quality. The first nine holes are partly on slightly undulating terrain, so the topography still provides some entertainment. The second nine holes are mostly flat and offer little tension.
The quality of the fairly wide fairways varies from relatively good to just acceptable. The semi-rough is difficult to play - the grass sticks like glue. The greens are good and fast, sometimes banally flat and sometimes beautifully undulating. The bunker sand is easy to play on. Natural obstacles occur sporadically from time to time, but they are hardly worth mentioning.
Conclusion: in three days at the latest I hardly remember anything about the place. therefore: no risk of repetition.

We played the course a total of three times. It presents itself in reasonable condition; in places it is very dry, the greens are impeccable. Absolutely strange were the club members. Younger men in particular presented themselves very ruthlessly. On our laps we were dangerously "bombed" from behind several times. When we then dared to say something, we were arrogantly scolded. The starter was not impressed by our complaint. The club members also noticed negatively several times after the round. They allowed themselves to be drunk uncontrollably in the club restaurant and were so loud (every day) that the guests who wanted to eat something and talk were massively disturbed.

Dear Werner, not sure if you are aware that we are currently in the worst drought the Cape has ever experience. With less than 100 days of usable drinking water left it is surely the biggest crisis we as Capetonians have ever faced. Under the conditions our golf course is in excellent condition. We have received so many compliments from guests regarding our greens, and some have even written that it is currently the best in the Cape. With our fairways being dry we have gone the extra mile in ensuring the attention to detail on the course is better than ever! Our tee-boxes and green surrounds are still green and lush.
We are hoping and praying that the rains come soon and that not only our golf course become green again, but that we will have drinking water after April.
We hope to welcome you back next year to a green lush Devonvale.

All other courses in the Western Cape receive water from external resources. We are the only golf course in the cape that is self sustainable. We make use of our own grey water and our dam resources. We are the future of how golf courses should be run. With water becoming such scarce resource in the Cape we cannot afford to have green fairways and no drinking water. All courses should strive to be like us!

Golf at Parkland Course with Springboks

I have the place played 5 times already. He has a superb location. Mature trees surrounded by vineyards overlooking the Simonsberg. The courses are challenging and varied in wind. Many lakes and water hazards are not completely full in January 2017 due to lack of water: good for the score, bad for nature. The balls roll far on the fairways. The greens are watered and maintained. Exceptional are the Springboks on the premises; us they have fallen. The staff is friendly and the prices are very fair.
