Enjoyed this immensely. The Grouse course was so impressive to start with. The only bad thing was the wind. It was incredibly strong and made what was already a very difficult challenge even more so. The Guadiana was very different but really enjoyed it too. Lovely clubhouse. Great food and very inexpensive.

Luckily the greens are in pretty good shape - but rather slow and easy to play. A golf kart is highly recommended for going up and down the fairways. The course has some challenges in store and also various tricky doglegs that can be played blind. The water hazards hardly present any problems and are quite easy to overcome, even for higher HCPs. All in all a place that is a lot of fun!

Played on 9/10/2022. The 27-hole course is not far from the Spanish border, a bit inland in peace and nature. The 27 holes are laid out in three loops of 9 holes each and are named Grouse, Guadiana and Altlantic. We should play the Grouse and the Guadiana course first. But later we first played the Grouse and then the Atlantic Course. Both loops were quite hilly and it went steadily uphill and downhill. On the Atlantic you also have a sea view, or a view of the border river between Portugal and Spain and the prominent motorway bridge that connects the two countries. On the Grouse-Cours you have a more inland view, or on the fairways of the other tracks. Buildings on the edge of the fairways are rare. The grouse course is open overall, but has a few tricky and quite narrow tees. Water and various inclines also play a decisive role here again and again. On the Atlantic course, more ingrown and tall pine trees and sometimes higher rough come into play. A few extra balls in the bag can't hurt. Two of the men's tees go directly over the greens of the previous hole, caution is advised! Both loops are anything but boring and offer plenty of challenges, even for experienced golfers. Due to the height differences, a cart is recommended. On the Atlantic course, however, some cart paths are a bit overgrown. Which brings us to the care status. We played a total of nine golf courses on this holiday/region and unfortunately have to say that Castro Marim's course was the worst maintained. A lot of foreign growth on the greens and on the fairways, where there were also some bare spots. The haircuts were often worn out. The sand in the bunkers was often very hard or wet. In the case of the Atlantic course, we were informed beforehand that the condition of the course was inadequate. So why did we play this anyway? Oddly enough, the game was very busy on a Saturday morning compared to the other places in the region. A four-flight after the other and that every 8 minutes. As a two-man flight in between, we needed 2.5 hours for the first 9 holes. We then asked to switch to the Atlantic. Nobody was out here. The reason is probably that the care measures are neglected even more here, which is confirmed by the partially unmown fairway in certain places. However, the greens here were in the same moderate condition as on the Goose Course. It can be assumed that the financial resources have run out a little overall. The cart was also in a rather mediocre condition. The preflight even had to change the cart because it probably couldn't get up the mountain. The carts did not have GPS and there was no water on the round. When asked, we were told that you could buy water in the bar. We didn't see a buggy bar on the round either. So be sure to bring food and drinks with you. Admittedly, the round on Castro Marim was the cheapest of all rounds at €111 for two people with a cart. Start times can be viewed and booked via the homepage, which otherwise has little significance. The clubhouse with restaurant (not used) makes a reasonable impression and the staff, especially the caddy master, were friendly and tried hard. If you put the maintenance condition aside and like the challenge of uneven terrain and sometimes challenging tees and strategic play, then you can play a round here. But you should probably go in the afternoon, otherwise there will be waiting times.

We played the course several times in December in different combinations. All 3 9-hole courses have their own charm. Guardiana and Grouse tend to be in the open hill country, Atlantic with thick pine trees near the clubhouse. All 3 places always offer great views, into the hinterland or to the sea. All 3 have long lanes, many doglegs and some challenging tees. Precise play is necessary for the sometimes narrow tracks. The greens are slightly undulating, but super fast, not easy on slopes. The condition of the place was good, although some repair work is currently taking place. A buggy makes sense, but not a must. The buggies are ok, but there are better ones (no GPS and some with clear signs of use). The service in the clubhouse is friendly and customer-oriented. What bothered me a little is that there are no free pens with the scorecard, it has to be bought. There are 2 smaller putting greens, a chipping area and 2 tee practice areas, although the long drive area (over 200 m) was currently closed. Overall, a beautiful golf course that is worth playing and with a great price / performance ratio.
