Impressive

Enjoyed this immensely. The Grouse course was so impressive to start with. The only bad thing was the wind. It was incredibly strong and made what was already a very difficult challenge even more so. The Guadiana was very different but really enjoyed it too. Lovely clubhouse. Great food and very inexpensive.

A varied place

We played Grouse and Guidiana courses on 2/9/23. We cannot confirm the previous criticism. Both places were in good condition. Numerous flights slowed down the game, but you always have time to enjoy the prospects. Since the height differences are considerable, you should treat yourself to a buggy. We paid €179.00 for 2 players including buggy.
We would play the courses again and again.

Castro Marim Gulf

We played the combination of Groose and Guardiana on February 2nd, 2023. The tee boxes are in a sorry state and the fairways could use a little more maintenance. Luckily the greens are in pretty good shape - but rather slow and easy to play. A golf kart is highly recommended for going up and down the fairways. The course has some challenges in store and also various tricky doglegs that can be played blind. The water hazards hardly present any problems and are quite easy to overcome, even for higher HCPs. All in all a place that is a lot of fun!
In the clubhouse and restaurant are all quite friendly and competent. If the place were a little better maintained, it could have been 4 stars.

You can tell it's cheap...

We had played the course before in the fall of 2018, then Atlantic and Groose, this time Groose and Guidiana. The condition of the haircuts has deteriorated, all greens had been treated with a white powder (fungus?), Which unfortunately was streaky on the greens. The buggy required due to the long distances and steep differences in height had evidently endured many golfers. Overall, however, the round was challenging and fun. You should also consider that we only had to pay €120 for two people including a buggy. But frugality and low prices can also be uncomfortable and surprising. There was no score card inserted/deposited on the buggy and no stupid pen either. So my wife went back to reception to get her card and pencil. She got the card, she was supposed to pay 10 cents for the pencil, we had never experienced that before...

27 holes in the backcountry with a challenge

Played on 9/10/2022. The 27-hole course is not far from the Spanish border, a bit inland in peace and nature. The 27 holes are laid out in three loops of 9 holes each and are named Grouse, Guadiana and Altlantic. We should play the Grouse and the Guadiana course first. But later we first played the Grouse and then the Atlantic Course. Both loops were quite hilly and it went steadily uphill and downhill. On the Atlantic you also have a sea view, or a view of the border river between Portugal and Spain and the prominent motorway bridge that connects the two countries. On the Grouse-Cours you have a more inland view, or on the fairways of the other tracks. Buildings on the edge of the fairways are rare. The grouse course is open overall, but has a few tricky and quite narrow tees. Water and various inclines also play a decisive role here again and again. On the Atlantic course, more ingrown and tall pine trees and sometimes higher rough come into play. A few extra balls in the bag can't hurt. Two of the men's tees go directly over the greens of the previous hole, caution is advised! Both loops are anything but boring and offer plenty of challenges, even for experienced golfers. Due to the height differences, a cart is recommended. On the Atlantic course, however, some cart paths are a bit overgrown. Which brings us to the care status. We played a total of nine golf courses on this holiday/region and unfortunately have to say that Castro Marim's course was the worst maintained. A lot of foreign growth on the greens and on the fairways, where there were also some bare spots. The haircuts were often worn out. The sand in the bunkers was often very hard or wet. In the case of the Atlantic course, we were informed beforehand that the condition of the course was inadequate. So why did we play this anyway? Oddly enough, the game was very busy on a Saturday morning compared to the other places in the region. A four-flight after the other and that every 8 minutes. As a two-man flight in between, we needed 2.5 hours for the first 9 holes. We then asked to switch to the Atlantic. Nobody was out here. The reason is probably that the care measures are neglected even more here, which is confirmed by the partially unmown fairway in certain places. However, the greens here were in the same moderate condition as on the Goose Course. It can be assumed that the financial resources have run out a little overall. The cart was also in a rather mediocre condition. The preflight even had to change the cart because it probably couldn't get up the mountain. The carts did not have GPS and there was no water on the round. When asked, we were told that you could buy water in the bar. We didn't see a buggy bar on the round either. So be sure to bring food and drinks with you. Admittedly, the round on Castro Marim was the cheapest of all rounds at €111 for two people with a cart. Start times can be viewed and booked via the homepage, which otherwise has little significance. The clubhouse with restaurant (not used) makes a reasonable impression and the staff, especially the caddy master, were friendly and tried hard. If you put the maintenance condition aside and like the challenge of uneven terrain and sometimes challenging tees and strategic play, then you can play a round here. But you should probably go in the afternoon, otherwise there will be waiting times.

Varied place

We played the course several times in December in different combinations. All 3 9-hole courses have their own charm. Guardiana and Grouse tend to be in the open hill country, Atlantic with thick pine trees near the clubhouse. All 3 places always offer great views, into the hinterland or to the sea. All 3 have long lanes, many doglegs and some challenging tees. Precise play is necessary for the sometimes narrow tracks. The greens are slightly undulating, but super fast, not easy on slopes. The condition of the place was good, although some repair work is currently taking place. A buggy makes sense, but not a must. The buggies are ok, but there are better ones (no GPS and some with clear signs of use). The service in the clubhouse is friendly and customer-oriented. What bothered me a little is that there are no free pens with the scorecard, it has to be bought. There are 2 smaller putting greens, a chipping area and 2 tee practice areas, although the long drive area (over 200 m) was currently closed. Overall, a beautiful golf course that is worth playing and with a great price / performance ratio.

You should take it with you

We played Guadiana / Atlantic. It was just fun. Nice club home, friendly staff, beautiful scenery, some interesting tricky holes. Play again when we're in the area? With joy.

Very varied!

We played the first 9 of Atlantic and the second 9 of Grouse. I have never experienced a grimmer contrast. While the first 9 were a beautiful Woodland course with tricky holes and some doglegs you could sometimes play to the horizon on the second 9. Long Par 4, I do not want to talk about the par 5 here. Buggy urgently recommended!
Overall, the place has managed us but we had a lot of golf fun and happy to come back.

Beautiful place with 27 holes

We (group of 6 people) played only once, the combination Grouse and Guadiana. Overall, very exciting holes with difficult winds and tactical possibilities due to the often very short but narrow playing tracks, quite demanding for every type of player. Partly wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and the coast. Place was good, greens in very good condition. (End of Oct. 17) Overall a lot of fun.

Another interesting experience after 15 years

We had played the place ever 15 years ago. He continues to be very interesting and the 3 times different 9 holes allow interesting combinations. The Atlantic site has quite its charms, but is sometimes not always dangerous because a discount on the green of the previous hole goes.
As before, this place is in a good state of maintenance and was better than the nearby places in Spain.

He continues to be not only visually challenging.

Super price performance ratio

27-hole course on the Spanish border. Driving Range is no! 24 balls € 3, the webs are adapted topography and often have contact with water, causing inevitably some ball donations!! may be short space of sometimes quite Tricky. Fairways well, good greens! With a green fee of only € 45, - the sunny afternoon made twice as much fun! The saved money was replaced promptly on the terrace in good red wine!

A really nice facility

We played the demanding and balls guzzling Grouse and then played the varied, something simpler 9-hole course Guardian. It was a great round, many discounts from top to bottom, but they are easy to reach previously. We have gone, which is absolutely okay. We will be back.

Nice & Clean

Super good value for 80 euros 2 players with Cart!

Cute, even super nice staff. Grouse significantly more beautiful 9 holes as Guardiana. The course consists of 3 times nine hole.

Super conditioning

Played in January 2015th

Super location with good care condition. Sporting a challange.

Recommended buggy necessarily, but the price of two players incl. Buggy 90 € certainly not a problem. A start time should definitely be booked.

Oh, and take more balls than normal, the place she eats with the water obstacles just so away.
Play games,

A beautiful place

Have the 3X played 9 hole course in February 2014.
Unlike some neighboring places this is not only in a consistently very good condition but was also well attended, so that it can be thoroughly recommended to reserviern start times.
The terrain is hilly and therefore quite a bit sportier for players. Up and down is on the agenda. The fairways are very narrow as some wrote, I can not unebdingt nachvollzielen. So this is so, make the fairways then often in a kind of funnel. Strike a little off then rolls the ball often down again on the fairway.
In an upcoming visit to Portugal I would this space if necessary. want to play in a different combination-again.

Exact match is required!

No matter which of the 3 x 9 holes is chosen, Castro Marim requires exact match. Tall pine trees and narrow fairways unforgiving warped balls.

The hills challenge the player very much. Either the ball rolls endlessly uphill or he just does not want to arrive at the green.

The price performance is very good here. However, one notices the oversized clubhouse that primarily the sale of real estate can see in the foreground.

Good place without high expectations

The green fee is cheap and that is something special in the Algarve. The course is in good condition. The tracks are sometimes very tight and sometimes this also not completely safe. The terrain is hilly and already requires some stamina.
