Characteristics

Carnoustie boasts three courses, all of which are rated in the Top 50links courses in the UK and Ireland. The Championship course has hosted 8 Open Championships most recently in 2018, I Ladies Open and 2 Senior Opens – one of the very few courses in the UK to have done so. Designed by James Braid it isgenerally regarded as the toughest of the Open venues. The Burnside is the baby brother and is approaching 100 years old. It is on herethat Ben Hogan qualified before going on to win The Open itself in1953. The Buddon was added in 1980 and the recent £1m investment brought in two new holes making it a testing Par 68 and the same length as the Burnside.

American Golf Fanatic

Played this course in April, 2011 in perfect weather! The course is deceiving at times, but fair. It feels like you're playing in a pasture at times, then you find yourself playing to a difficult par three or driving your ball into an unseen water hazard. Loved playing the course that has hosted historic British Open events forever!

Once is enough

Certainly a sporty place with a lot of history.
Once the creek gets everyone!
Very friendly staff, no range, restaurant average!
An open course that is part of a golfer's collection when you're in the area, but with the greenfee> £ 200.00 being called, a visit is enough!

Difficult to play place but very interesting

We played the course in May 2018.

Driving range was only indoor (sometimes interesting to play in)

The place is very narrow and you should play exactly if you want to lie on the fairway. Otherwise, you play a lot out of the rough. but the balls are good to find. Otherwise, it is a typical links course with hard fairways and relatively fast and difficult greens.

Currently before the Open, the Key Landing Areas must also be beaten off by mats, which feels a bit strange (they are not "normal" tee mats, as you would expect from the Range).

All in all, it is certainly recommended to play the course.
