China's Wu Weihuang fired a five-under-par 67 to surge four shots clear at the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Dell Championship in Xiamen Friday.
Eleven under for the tournament, he is four strokes ahead of Alex Wu Ashun, who struck a 68 and is on 137 after 36 holes at the opening event of the Omega China Tour.
Taiwan's Lin Keng-chi, the 1995 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, birdied the final hole for a 69 to share third place on five-under with Kong Weihai and 18-year-old South Korean Tour rookie Eom Jae-Woong.
Li Chao and Zhang Lianwei, champion and runner-up last year, are lurking in joint sixth place on three-under after shooting 69 and 70 respectively.
Wu Weihuang, a former martial arts champion who only took up golf in his late 20s, is gunning for his first China Tour title.
"I won't put any more any pressure on myself on Saturday, even though I'm the leader. I'll just play my usual game," said the 40-year-old, the first-round leader with a 66.
Wu curled in a 20-footer on his last hole, the ninth, for his sixth birdie of the day.
"I'm really happy with the way I've played these two days, especially because I've only had one bogey in 36 holes," he said.
Wu Ashun, 23, has returned to his domestic circuit after a good start to this year's Asian Tour, where he has finished tied for seventh and fourth in his past two events.
He was one over after nine holes, but came back in 31, shooting five birdies on the easier front nine for the second successive day.
