South Korean star K.J. Choi will host his own tournament on the Asian Tour later this year, organisers said Monday, with the prize money among the best offered on the circuit.
The K.J. Choi Invitational will take place at the Sky72 Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea, from October 20-23, the Asian Tour said in a statement. It will have a prize pot of $750,000.
"This is a very exciting day for me and I would like to thank the Asian Tour, the Korean tour, Asian Tour media and Sky72 Golf Club for partnering me in this project," Choi, currently ranked 15th in the world, said.
The South Korean, who recently won The Players Championship -- considered the sport's fifth major -- plays most of his golf on the US PGA Tour but is an honorary member of the Asian Tour.
Choi runs an eponymous charity foundation and donated $200,000 of his winnings at The Players Championship to victims of tornadoes that have ravaged the southeastern United States.
"The K.J. Choi Foundation is very important to me and this tournament will be a very special way to raise funds and the profile of many of the causes we support," the 41-year-old added.
